Infuriating and Fascinating Story
Reviewed: 05-22-24
Tuckers Way is the gripping story of a strong woman whose iron stand of natural truthfulness and stubborn determination was forged during the harshest mistreatment in her upbringing.
The author has a meticulous way of writing that is at once infuriating and fascinating. it is step by step detailed to the point that one can smell the smells, hear the sounds, and see every inch of Tucker's home and herself. It is a sad story but also uplifting. I highly recommend this book. The narration is hauntingly beautiful and the story grabbed me so that I couldn't put it down until the end..

Story
Four 30-something women who were childhood friends reunited by an old promise in the decayed little swamp town of their birth. It turns into a weekend filled with obsession, deception, untold secrets, love, hatred, and murder hidden behind a dark curtain of Spanish moss. In the distance, the moon is rising a virulent orange, sliced through with lines of red, as if leaking blood - vigilant, jealous guardian of voodoo rituals and the legends of werewolves.

The story may be ok, but I could not get past that narration. The extremely slow, drawling accent of the narrator is so over the top that it was simply painful to listen to for more than 10 minutes.

Story

Jahrhunderts Deutschlands zusammengefasst. Genial geschrieben und unterhaltend vorgetragen!

The Perfect Audiobook

I don't usually write reviews, but "Das Parfüm" stands out by a mile! Süsskind created a unique character and a fantastic story in the very sense of the word. I listened to the whole book in 2 days and will probably re-listen again and again. The performance by Hans Korte was intuitive, engaged, and engaging. At times I was taken so deeply into the story and the world created by Süsskind and "painted" by Korte that I competely forgot my surroundings. Of course, fluency in German is a prerequisite.

Story
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

Stephen Fry's treatment of the Greek pantheon is insightful, knowledgeable, and utterly entertaining! His performance is stellar, he could read the train schedule of any major city and it would be a riveting experience. This book is an absolute must-have for anyone interested in listening to a good story.
