Love this series!

As usual, this was a great escape from the daily grind and a lovely visit to Coopers Chase. I listened to this on Audible and love the narration and the interview at the end from the author.
I honestly can not say which of these are my favorite but I think this was the saddest one in the series so far. Maybe I am more attached to the characters. This is one of those series where you become friends with all of the characters in the books. Amazing talent by this author.
Can't wait for the next book!

William Waters grew up in a house silenced by tragedy, where his parents could hardly bear to look at him, much less love him—so when he meets the spirited and ambitious Julia Padavano in his freshman year of college, it’s as if the world has lit up around him. With Julia comes her family, as she and her three sisters are inseparable: Sylvie, the family’s dreamer, is happiest with her nose in a book; Cecelia is a free-spirited artist; and Emeline patiently takes care of them all.

Absolutely recommend!

This was my first novel by this author. Her writing style is comfortable and engaging at the same time. The characters she created were clearly based on some typical life experiences, as well as some unusual ones. I believe there is a character for everyone to relate to in this novel and not a characters that were disliked. Maybe that’s why it was so comfortable. Thoughtful read. I will likely read her pre kid novel and follow her.

Story
Sixteen-year-old Frankie Budge—aspiring writer, indifferent student, offbeat loner—is determined to make it through yet another summer in Coalfield, Tennessee, when she meets Zeke, a talented artist who has just moved into his grandmother’s house and who is as awkward as Frankie is. Romantic and creative sparks begin to fly, and when the two jointly make an unsigned poster, shot through with an enigmatic phrase, it becomes unforgettable to anyone who sees it. The edge is a shantytown filled with gold seekers. We are fugitives, and the law is skinny with hunger for us.

Lisa See never disappoints!
Reviewed: 07-16-23
I can honestly report that I have never been disappointed by a Lisa See novel. My favorite one is still Snow Flower and the Secret Fan but they are all great. I love the dive into the Asian traditional culture specifically related to the women and the upbringing of girls. It is fascinating and I love how Lisa See creates and identifies the great strengths of the female characters in her novels. They have great strength but in a realistic way that stays true to the culture.
The reality of foot binding experiences intrigue me and also terrify me. I highly recommend any of the Lisa See novels and will continue to enjoy them as she publishes more. Bravo, Lisa See, you are an amazing author and so consistently valid. Thank you.

Entertaining
Reviewed: 07-16-23
This was a fun distraction for me. A lot of young people are talking about this series so I thought I would give it a whirl. A lot of romance, definitely feels like a soap opera but with a dystopia feel. Kind of a variation on a Beauty and the Beast theme. I listened to parts of this on audible and found that might have been a more entertaining way to consume this novel.
The first half seems like a lot of character development but the second half, the plot thickens. This is a great series to listen to or read for fun. There is not a lot of intellectual stimulation going on and I will likely forget about these characters.
With all of that said, I will probably keep with the series to see what happens:-)

First of all, I really wanted to like this book. The description and the reviews had me convinced that I would like the story. However, it just was not that great of a story. I think that I wanted there to be more detail and connections with the magic part of the plot than there was. I first started listening to it on audible and then I switched over the paperback because I thought it was the narrator that was hard for me to follow.
Maybe it was the characters that lacked consistency and depth. The story seemed disconnected to me.

I enjoyed this book. Actually was not sure that I would but it was quite inspiring to appreciate the moments and the present day. The characters were both sweet but strong and genuine but bold. I love stories in which the adults learn more from the children than the inverse.

Well I have to say that not many book series can pull off this kind of entertaining for three books without getting boring. I love the characters. It is really like I know them all and am in the jigsaw room with them. I love that the author embraces the older generation. This is totally my kind of detective work as well. This works for either reading or listening as the narration is great!
Looking forward to book number 4!
