Publisher's summary

Masterful storytelling from #1 bestselling global phenomenon Sarah J. Maas brings her sexy, action-packed series to new heights.

Feyre has undergone more trials than one human woman can carry in her heart.

Though she’s now been granted the powers and lifespan of the High Fae, she is haunted by her time Under the Mountain and the terrible deeds she performed to save the lives of Tamlin and his people.

As her marriage to Tamlin approaches, Feyre’s hollowness and nightmares consume her. She finds herself split into two different people: one who upholds her bargain with Rhysand, High Lord of the feared Night Court, and one who lives out her life in the Spring Court with Tamlin.

While Feyre navigates a dark web of politics, passion, and dazzling power, a greater evil looms. She might just be the key to stopping it, but only if she can harness her harrowing gifts, heal her fractured soul, and decide how she wishes to shape her future—and the future of a world in turmoil.

Great story....but too much smut :/

Pros: Great storyline and interesting plot development from book one into book two. I felt the characters, both old and new, were fleshed out well. If you liked the first book in this series, you will love this developments in book two.

Cons: Way too many graphic sex scenes. I really could've done without those--the storyline itself was strong enough that these scenes and the use of foul language seemed to cheapen the depth of the book. The descriptions were waaaaay to long and slowed down the action of the story. I was really surprised that Sarah J. Mass would include such graphic details. Sadly, it's enough to keep me from recommending this series to others. If I wanted a "romance" novel, I would buy one.

WARNING GRAPHIC SEX-NOT SUITABLE FOR YOUTH

THE PUBLISHER HAS THIS TITLE MARKETED TO 11-13 YEAR OLDS AND TEENS. If you’re an adult, it’s a good read. However, please be aware that this book is not appropriate for a child. I’m talking 50 shades of gray level smut marketed to youth. Audible may be taking a major legal liability on this one.

I finished in 3 DAYS and now I'm depressed!

This series is SO good! I am not all that fond of how slow Jennifer Ikeda reads it so I have to speed it up. But Sarah J. Maas BLOWS my mind in this book. SO creative and romantic, great movement in the story, awesome action and she keeps you on your toes the entire time. She makes you love who you're supposed to when you're supposed to but can mix it up just as fast. I loved this book, I'm captivated with this story, and CANNOT WAIT for the next one (hoping it won't be forever until the next book is released)

On the edge of my seat

This sequel was everything. With the writing in conjunction with the narrator this book came alive. While I was listening I could picture each scene, feel the emotions, take in everything that was conveyed. It was amazing ... Can't wait for the third installment.

an exhilarating sequel

One of my biggest complaints in both this book and the first is that I wish the characters were more dimensional. I'm not sure if they were written to be complex, but none really felt that way to me.

I'm happy we're getting to learn more about Prythian, both the other courts (other than the Spring Court) and how there's more than just where the High Lords hold court, such as Tamlin's Manor or the Hewn City.

I knew the talk of mates in the first book was foreshadowing, especially when Feyre asked what would happen if a fairy's mate was a human, though I was surprised when Elain was Lucian's mate.

I've loved Nesta since Feyre starts learning who she actually is. I wish she had been the main character. I loved that she played a bigger role in this book; I'm especially excited to see her development as an immortal.

Rhysand's character development was very well done and felt authentic throughout the book. However, the masquerade of villain to conceal good intentions seemed a bit cliched to me; I wish a character could be both cruel and a good ruler. I liked seeing him all these different ways and truly learning who he is. Velaris was an interesting foil for Rhys, and I really appreciated that detail.

I really loved learning about Rhys' friends; the way they played into the story and helped the character and plot development was really great. It was nice to get to know them through Feyre's growing relationships with them, and seeing how the group adapted to include her.

Feyre's still fairly unrelatable, and I still feel like I don't have a very strong grasp on who she is. Her character seems very inconsistent and every reaction she has feels randomized. With her "finding herself" in her new freedom in the Night Court, and the mating bond, it seems like she has a strong(er?) stance when it comes to defense of what and who she loves.
I don't understand how she cares about her father's feelings; I was surprised she cared about him at all after she left for Prythian in the first book. Loving her sisters, I can understand a bit more.

Elain is boring and weak. Her character is summed up as beautiful and demure. I neither like nor trust her. Throughout both the books, I kept waiting for Elain to be the one who, accidentally or otherwise, screws up everything and screws over everyone. I'm convinced it will happen in the next.
I like the development of Lucian being her mate and am excited to see the glorious havoc and, hopefully, backstabbing that will occur because of this.

I knew the queens would betray them the second that Rhys told them the name of the his precious, hidden city. But the Golden Queen's betray to her sisters was a lovely twist.

I'm a sucker...

Okay, I fell for this. I fell hard. This book got me. Sucked me into this world completely. I am 35. I am slightly ashamed of myself for how much I turned into a teen fan-girl over this book. Nah, actually I'm not ashamed cause if I was ashamed I wouldn't own shirts with symbols/lines from this book on them and where them in public..which I do.
Anyways, I enjoyed the slow build of this story. I enjoyed how things unfolded. I yelled at the main character, Feyre, less in this book than I did while listening to ACOTAR...she's finally growing and becoming a character I can tolerate/back.

Best in the series

I wasn't sure of this series after reading the first book and only giving it 3 stars, but I was encouraged to pick up this one and I wasn't disappointed. I love the slow burning romance that filled this book and one thing is for sure Rhysand won me over in this one, him and his inner circle. I thought the story was well worth the time and I.could definitely see myself rereading this one again.
