Story
Children have been disappearing from across Menaiya for longer than Amraeya ni Ansarim can remember. When her friend’s sister is snatched, Rae knows she can’t look away any longer - even if that means seeking answers from the royal court, where her country upbringing and clubfoot will only invite ridicule. Yet the court holds its share of surprises. There she discovers an ally in the foreign princess, who recruits her as an attendant.

I love that Rae, the main character, is written like a real person. I'm never distracted by awkwardness in the story. It makes sense and so do the rest of the characters. I lose myself in the story from beginning to end. I highly recommend it.

Story
In which, a 17-year-old apprentice dealer in rare books is sent from Paris to England by her father, to obtain incunabula and medieval books of devotion - and whatever secrets of political intrigue or finance may come to hand in the process. In the course of her business, though, Minnie meets Harold Grey (Lord John’s elder brother), the newly-widowed (and alarmingly deranged) Duke of Pardloe, and things fall out.

Story
The enemy unknowingly opened a portal to the Netherworld, and our world’s only wizard somehow managed to close it. Unfortunately, something got through. Something big. A dragon. Now Kaz Wolfe, with help from his dog Duke who is channeling the spirit of a wizard from ancient Babylon, and with no help from Azib the Cowardly Genie, must find the dragon before someone gets a cellphone video of the thing, and the world learns that magic is real. Story
My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. It’s a lonely life. I don’t let anyone get close...people who get close to me end up dead. Why? I’m a wizard. The world’s only wizard, as far as I know.

RC Bray might be my favorite narrator. I love that he makes conversations sound like conversations. Characters who are written as upset sound upset.
So many narrators sound serene all times no matter what's happening in the story or how the characters are written to feel at a given moment. I don't love that.

I'm not going to be specific. I'm just going to say that the world is rich, the characters are believable, and the story engaging. I read "Thorn" and was hooked. I was very happy to find that it was the first of a trilogy.

Dreadful
Reviewed: 10-18-23
I don't love the teleplay presentation of this story. The last book wasn't as enjoyable as the first two, partly because the actor playing Lysander was so bad. At least he only had play of the story.
This Lysander is much worse and, unfortunately, has the majority of the story so far. They've given the role of a young man to an old one, which is bad enough, but he plays the role as if it were bad, bad Shakespeare instead of science fiction.
Edit:
It got better as I went on and was all pretty good before the middle. I enjoyed this.

The Wheel of Time turns and Ages come and go, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth returns again. In the Third Age, an Age of Prophecy, the World and Time themselves hang in the balance. What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow.

Great book
Reviewed: 09-23-22
The narration is really great, with some strange things stuck in there that I find distracting. The woman ends sentences in the middle of them and then speaks the next part as if it were a whole sentence. However, she's been fairly consistent about the voices she uses for the various characters over the course of the series, which I appreciate.
Across the series, the male narrator is rock solid consistent with the voices of some specific characters and strangely inconsistent with others. For example, sometimes the Andorans have British accents and sometimes they don't. When they do, they often have extremely nasal voices as well.
Both of them go back and forth between pronunciations of the names of certain people and places. For the first four books, they mispronounced the name of one of the Forsaken (per its spelling), then pronounced it correctly for a few books, then went back to doing it wrong again. It's weird. They both also mispronounce ordinary words. Weird.
But like I said, it's distracting, but only because their overall work is excellent.

This is a very good series. I've finished all fourteen books now and have really enjoyed them: the stories, I mean. I'm not as enthusiastic about the performances. If the stories hadn't been so good, I might not have finished the series. I won't look for either actor again.
