I really enjoyed the author reading his story. If only we knew more. I'm not sure if he'll write another book, if so I will listen.

Honey bees get all the press, but the fascinating story of North America's native bees - an endangered species essential to our ecosystems and food supplies - is just as crucial. Our Native Bees is the result of Paige Embry's yearlong quest to learn more about these forgotten, yet fundamental, creatures. Through interviews with farmers, gardeners, scientists, and bee experts, Embry explores the importance of native bees and focuses on why they play a key role in gardening and agriculture.

Story
In Formerly Known as Food, Kristin Lawless argues that, because of the degradation of our diet, our bodies are literally changing from the inside out. The billion-dollar food industry is reshaping our food preferences, altering our brains, changing the composition of our microbiota, and even affecting the expression of our genes. Lawless chronicles how this is happening and what it means for our bodies, health, and survival. An independent journalist and nutrition expert, Lawless is emerging as the voice of a new generation of food thinkers.

Wow! Just terrifying. Big ag doesn't need to exist. we were better off before. There are solutions out there. we need to demand them. NOW. This f'd up capitalism doesn't belong in food systems. We need real farms and gardens and living wages to buy and cook REAL beyond organic food.

Story
People who are not in the habit of talking with the dead have a hard time imagining what Matt Fraser’s life is like. Based on the questions he gets, they seem to think he spends most of his time sitting cross-legged in a trance, maybe hovering a few inches off the ground, leaving his physical body behind as he journeys across the veil to the spirit realm. But it’s not like that at all.

Story
From Salatin's point of view, life in the 21st century just ain't normal. In Folks, This Ain't Normal, he discusses how far removed we are from the simple, sustainable joy that comes from living close to the land and the people we love. Salatin has many thoughts on what normal is and shares practical and philosophical ideas for changing our lives in small ways that have big impact. Salatin urges people to take a better look at their food: What's in it, where is it coming from, and how did it get the table?

Very patriarchal, but still a lot of great points
Reviewed: 03-01-19
Some of the author's "old fashioned" thinking was patriarchal and sexist, even though he said it was not. It was. However, he makes A LOT of valid points about our food industry and what we have come to view as a "normal" today. Just because you can't do everything to solve society's problems in a day, doesn't mean you are powerless. Do something. plant a tomato in a pot, set up a worm composter, do something before it is too late.
