Story
When COVID-19 sweeps through New York City, Jamie Gray is stuck as a dead-end driver for food-delivery apps. That is, until Jamie makes a delivery to an old acquaintance, Tom, who works at what he calls “an animal rights organization”. Tom’s team needs a last-minute grunt to handle things on their next field visit. Jamie, eager to do anything, immediately signs on. What Tom doesn't tell Jamie is that the animals his team cares for are not here on Earth. Not our Earth, at at least. In an alternate dimension, dinosaur-like creatures named Kaiju roam a warm and human-free world.

Fun read from a snowflake

The story really was quite fun, and I enjoyed listening to Wil perform it. Great ideas and whimsical plot, but unless you're still hyperventilating over covid, you'll find this story a bit annoying. Snowflakes will find their safe place here.

Story
The human soldiers stranded on the planet Paradise have been recruited into an alien legion to do the dirty jobs that the high-tech species won't do. Their first mission is to kick the enemy off a backwater planet no one cares about. It's a simple assignment, except everyone has a hidden agenda, and the planet could become a deathtrap.

Story
Colonel Joe Bishop made a promise and he's going to keep it; taking the captured alien starship Flying Dutchman back out. He doesn't agree when the UN decides to send almost 70 elite Special Operations troops, hotshot pilots, and scientists with him; the mission is a fool's errand he doesn't expect to ever return from. At least, this time, the Earth is safe, right? Not so much.

Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

This book rocks - I would strongly recommend. The basis of my recommendation is simple: It's immensely entertaining. It moves at a good clip, it has periods of action and humor, and Bray is a marvelous narrator. I get books like this for the sheer pleasure of listening - and Alanson manages to make my drive in to work a joy. I am desperate for the sequels on Audible.... Thank you, Alanson and Bray!

My Commute Addiction
Reviewed: 03-18-13
What did you love best about Maelstrom?
I drive at least 2-3 hours a day and have been listening to Taylor Anderson's Destroyermen series. I simply can't get enough - I used to dread my commute time, but now I look forward to every chance I get to listen. I've even exchanged my music list while jogging for more time to listen to these stories. Dufris is amazing as the narrator; he has brought each of the characters alive. I will be incredibly sad when I have completed the series (and will likely grieve by listening to them all over again!!!). I'm simply addicted to this story and hope Mr. Anderson has no plans to stop the series any time soon.
