Can't believe I waited so long to listen to this.
Reviewed: 12-12-15
This is a fast paced well written book a about some blue collar space heroes. The narration kept the characters distinguished and was entertaining. I devoured this book and violated my own personal portion policies on how much time I devoted to a book per day. The book went by like a flash and when it was over I could not believe I skipped over it so many times when looking for something new to listen to.

Much darker than book 1.
Reviewed: 12-12-15
Although this book was much darker than book 1, I went through it faster. I usually listen while on the road, but caught myself listening at the house when no one else was home. I do have mixed feelings about this series of books though. With all the soberness and pain that the main character feels, I am reluctant to listen to the next one in the series. I think I will in the future, but need a break for now.

Quite a different angle on military sci-fi.

I really enjoyed listening to this book, but I can't quite put my finger on why. The story has a very sober and serious tone. Bordering on dark at times. A lot of listeners have not liked the main characters self loathing. I actually related quite a bit with the his second guessing of himself. A good leader in a difficult situations, with life and death situations is going to have double takes and regrets. Looking back at this story now, I think most people have a predisposition of a comic book hero as a main character and when a writer tries to put some reality to their writing some people have a bad reaction because it's not what they expected. The part of this story I enjoyed the most is the stay on the new colonies and the writers perspective on how life on new worlds would be. The narrator did a better than average job, but not a 5.

Really enjoyed this story. It has some of the same old military sci-fi and it has some good twists to enjoy also. The story is fast paced and the book was over before I new it making me beg for more. The narrator was hard to get used to. He seems to have the same matter of fact tone for all the characters and his voice seemed to trail off at the end of each sentence. Toward the end of the book I ether got used to him or he got better. The story made up for it though. I'm really looking forward to book two and have checked for it on Audible several times already.

Warning, Space OPERA!!

When they say something is a SPACE OPERA, I should listen. I could not stomach this book. From the rich brats bringing their servants on a warship to the main character have not many redeeming qualities. Then the struggle of an interstellar, stuck up librarian. Also going on, on about nobility that may or may not have had anything to do with the story. Needless to say I did not finish this book. The narration was pleasant though. If you are into military scifi or like action in your stories, do not get this!

I did not get the feeling that the author was trying to sell fitness voodoo magic with this book. This book has a lot of good do's and don'ts for anyone beginning a workout program to someone more advanced. It gave me some good insight into everything from training to nutrition. Although I did not agree with everything the author said, it did give me some new ideas. The narration was not award winning, but better than a lot of novels I've listened to.

Word of God inspired. If all men lived like this the world would be a better place. If I lived like this my life and family would be better too. Real wisdom to think about, but not a replacement for the Bible in a man's life.

As with all the Star Force books, I devoured this one too. This has been a great series and I have really enjoyed it. I'm going to miss Riggs and his crazy robot. I liked this book a little more than the others. The others got a little bit monotonous. A few of them seemed like I was reading "1000 Ways to Use Nanites" and that got a little old, but I still enjoyed them. This one was not like that. It was fast paced and seemed better balanced. I recommend this book and series to any one that craves military sci-fi.

Entertaining story but too coincidental.
Reviewed: 03-02-14
Jakes did a good job of making the main characters in this story enjoyable and memorable. Character development was good and I think Jakes excels at it. I would really like to meet these characters again in the next story. But I have not bought another as of yet. What keeps me from listening to another one of these is the line of events. The story line is too coincidental. Our hero and antagonist seemed forced into meeting again. The events are too contrived and unnatural. Never the less, I did give it a 4 and I enjoyed it. I was even a little moved by the romance in the story. Something that I usually don't get caught up in. As for narration, I thought it was good and characters were very distinguishable. This listen was not a waste of time.

There is a lot of good information here. I might have to go back and listen to it again so more will soak in. I agree with Dr. Perlmutter’s view that Americans eat to many carbs. I can see some of his findings in some of the older people I know and their diets. I agree that there is a connection with eating too much sugar and carbs and Alzheimer’s. For this I would have given the book at least 4 stars. I don't agree with his stand on how people evolved not eating wheat and that we are all gluten sensitive. I am a creationist and think that people were eating grains since we were. People have been eating grain in the bible for at least six thousand years. You think there would be more tolerance for gluten by now. I am not disagreeing that gluten is messing people up. I just think that the blame can be attributed to modern farming and gene manipulation. There are other reasons why grains don't agree with people. Many other books have been saying the same thing about gluten, so it's not totally original. That’s why I only give this book a three. Aside from that there is so much good information in here I have to recommend this book.
