It was okay.

I’ve always been a fan of Mr. Robinsons work in the past, but this and the first book in the series are not even close to being as good as his earlier work. There were several times I was so bored with the book and I wanted to just stop. I’m certainly no going to finish the series.

Story
Here is the kind of authentically detailed epic novel that has become Louis L’Amour’s hallmark. It is the compelling story of US Air Force major Joe Mack, a man born out of time. When his experimental aircraft is forced down in Russia and he escapes a Soviet prison camp, he must call upon the ancient skills of his Indian forebears to survive the vast Siberian wilderness.

Great story, not a great narrator
Reviewed: 07-10-23
The story was great, I just couldn’t get past the narrator. He made a great story bland and boring to listen to.

Best in the series so far

I think this is the best in the series so far. Interaction between the characters, descriptions, and the action are all first rate. Loads of great characters that are fun to listen to.

I struggled to get through it

I thought the ideas was interesting, and here are some interesting parts to the story but it is over all a pretty boring book. It may rely on technology that is in use today, as the book states, but that doesn’t mean it will be exciting because of it.

Story
The US aircraft carrier patrolling the Western Pacific Ocean is severely damaged by a surprise salvo of cruise missiles. While the Russian government officially apologizes, claiming it was the result of fire control accident during a training exercise, it was instead a calculated provocation. With the US Pacific fleet already severely under strength, the Russian president decides that the US response is a clear indication of their weakness, militarily and politically, and initiates a bold plan.
