About this listen

Three fleets aim to wipe out a planet.

One team must raise the alarm...and time is running out.

As Moldark turns his attention to Capriana Prime, Magnus and his gladias attempt to convince the Republic’s leadership to raise the planetary defense shield. But this seemingly simple task turns out to be more difficult than anyone expected, placing the planet’s population in grave jeopardy.

Desperate to save the capital, Magnus and the Gladio Umbra fight to save the seat of galactic rule at all costs.

Azelon isn’t without her tricks, however, and provides new hardware for Magnus—the BATRIG mechanized battle armament system.

But as time runs out, Magnus is faced with the hardest choices of his life...and gambles will be made.

All for the greater good.

Includes a special note from the authors.

The Ruins of the Galaxy series is now performed by Christopher Ryan Grant, narrator of the bestselling sci-fi series Strange Company.

Good story once you get over the narrator swap

Is what it is. Miss RC Bray but Christopher does a good job too. Story is solid still too. #firstworldproblems

No Bray? No Problem

With the story machinations we’ll in place, the Ruins of the Galaxy series continues to thrill and invigorate the need to follow Magnus, Awen, and company through their toughest and most emotionally demanding book yet.

Another Masterpiece, with a new sound.

still good

I hate it when a narrator is changed in the middle of a series. I gave him a chance, and I'm glad I did. I will continue the series

Narrator switch wasn't bad

started a little shaky, but quickly gained the momentum to keep the listener's attention.

He’s not RC Bray

While I preferred RC Bray, Grant was adequate! Great story! Can’t wait for the next book!

Hard to Rate This One

This one is a bit hard to rate. I like this series of books. Nothing spectacular here - some series I like better, some I like less. From a story perspective, if you've read the other books, then you get the same quality here. The only issue, as others have pointed out, is the change in narrators. If you do a simple google search, you'll see why they made the change - RC had some health issues and fell behind in his recording schedule. They decided to keep him on Ruins of the Earth. Having just listened to the first in that series, if they had to pick one or the other to keep RC on, then I get it - I can see where that series may be more popular.

Coming back to this book, I have never heard Christopher Grant perform before. In all honesty, he's not bad. However, when you are used to hearing RC Bray perform... the change is jarring - extremely so. It's like starting Season 6 of Star Trek: The Next Generation and the entire cast has been replaced by the actors from Star Trek: Enterprise. Scott Bakula has replaced Patrick Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard... Ummm.... NO

That doesn't work. Ever. I like Scott Bakula, but he is not even close to being in the same league as Patrick Stewart. And that goes the same for Christopher Grant and RC Bray. RC Bray will elevate a story with his performance. Mr. Grant, while he's fine at his craft, doesn't elevate a story in the same way.

So, I would say this series is 3 stars, maybe 3.5. With RC it's a solid 4 stars. Without RC, you lose that elevation and you're back to 3 to 3.5 stars... Wish I could give a half star, but I can't... Sorry, but I'm rounding down on this one.

I will listen to the next one though... But it's time to start wrapping this series up.

Endless battle scenes.

Almost everyone that died was a friendly combatant and not the enemy. Essentially they we're killing their friends in order to save others.

Narrator switch changed the characters personalities.

I think Christopher Ryan Grant has a great voice as a narrator. Unfortunately, after binging “Ruins of Earth” and then the first six books of this series “Ruins of the Galaxy”, I have voices matched with characters. I gave the book 13 chapters for me to adjust, unfortunately it didn’t work out.

The change in the characters voice made the words the characters were saying sound as completely different characters. I know this sounds absurd, so I will trying reading the rest of the series and see if it gets back to my expectations.

I will be finishing the book on and the series on Kindle and hopefully the book picks back up.

Rc Bray has left the building 😢

At the start of this book I was honestly pissed to not have Rc bray in my ears, but by the end of the book Christopher Ryan grant has grown on me but still very disappointed and wish that if Rc couldn’t finish this then would have been better with Ryan from the start so I didn’t get whiplash on the 6th book.
