About this listen

The year is 2026. China has taken over as the world's largest economy, while the United States, mired in an oil shortage, struggles to adjust to its diminished role. Then, a surprise attack throws the US into a chaos unseen since Pearl Harbor. As the enemy takes control, the survival of the nation will depend upon the most unlikely forces: the Navy's antiquated Ghost Fleet and a cadre of homegrown terrorists.

Ghost Fleet is unique in that every piece of technology featured in the novel already exists or is in the works. Peter W. Singer is Senior Fellow and Director of the 21st Century Defense Initiative at the Brookings Institution and a consultant for the US Department of Defense and FBI. August Cole is a journalist and writer specializing in national security issues and is an Adjunct Fellow at the American Security Project.

Massive enjoyable near future military fiction.

Very entertaining, and very believable in its extrapolation of current technology into a future setting. Drone warfare and hacker armies battling alongside 20th century naval vessels. The Characters all felt real. The tension wasn't forced. Exactly what the blurb offered and more.

Fantastic!

I couldn't stop listening to this book. It wasn't perfect by any means but I really enjoyed the story. At times it felt like there were too many things going on at once and not nearly enough character development but in a good way. It constant left me wanting more. This could easily be expanded into several more books in a series.

Reality shown in a fictional novel.

Phanominal book that takes our technology of today and applies it to a very plausible story of what could happen. This book is in a way today's 1984 by George Orwell, scary true!

confusing story

I did not find this novel suitable for an audiobook. perhaps it would have worked better as a reader. I read a factual book called " like War" by the author Singer, which I found to be well-researched and well-written. I was therefore intrigued to see what his fiction would be like.
The story suffers from the current fashion of jumping from subplot to subplot far too frequently so one gets lost in characters, character development, technological discussions . The plot is pretty much like scrambled eggs. Further, the premise of the story, which I will not reveal, is for me, pretty difficult to swallow from the get-go.

Overall Good but Confusing

I liked the overall story and how it applied current day social and economic situations. I also like the subtle glimpse into the future with technology.

The amount of details was a double edged sword. While it’s nice to have details, there was just so much information to process I got lost. The story jumped around A LOT, and there were so many characters introduced with no back ground it was impossible to keep track of everyone and everything going on. At times, I felt like I was lost in the fog of the book like one would be caught in the fog of war. But overall, I was able to follow the main story.

The narrator had a killer performance.

Great story in the tradition of Tom Clancy. A glimpse into the new technologies that are revolutionizing warfare.
