Story
With less than a month left to prepare the Earth for what is about to happen, Silas must pull out all the stops to save as many people as possible. Of course, if one system wasn't bad enough, Earth has been declared a contested world. Now, it isn't just the Earth competing any longer but at least two systems trying to gain control of the Earth.

Not really much here

Suspension of Disbelief plus 300% upgraded to epic. I'm almost certain this author is following a template. You can always count on, "they snorted, I grinned, I moved aside my notifications.". It's hard to believe I've gone through 5 books to get absolutely nowhere. The only saving grace is the voice performer. The author has interesting concepts but there is almost no real character growth/development. 3/4 of the book is stats, stat gains, and "system" definitions. 1/8 of the book is story and another 1/8 is character development. That said, this book is really only about 3 hours long. I hate Silas/the author's world philosophy. The characters are cardboard cutouts and exist to only serve the VERY contrived story. I know what's going to happen without even reading the story because Silas always wins and always gets everything he wants. It's like some narcissistic fan boy fiction the author is imagining about himself. There is never real danger or doubt that everything will go perfect for Silas. I heard the next one is a filler book. Since you only get an hour or two of actual story anyway, I think it's time for me to move on. I don't recommend these. And I just have to add this: shame on Silas. He swore on the soul of his dead father that he would take care of Anika's family. He asked Chang to check on them briefly, a month before induction. That isn't taking care of them. He should have brought them to his stronghold. The author has too many things he's juggling here. This story is going to collapse, like the title of one of the books in the series.

Story
Silas is growing into the responsibilities weighing him down. Earth is struggling, but there is hope. The deals that Silas has made have brought resources and trainers to Earth. He's helped some leaders gain an understanding of what they will face. His team has continued to grow but now he finds himself facing the greatest challenge to any Forerunner, the Wild Hunt. He'll be hunted but also have to hunt other Forerunners while forging a shaky alliance with those he can't trust. Even more disturbing, it seems like there might be more than one system to choose from.

Last one for me
Reviewed: 03-15-25
These books, aside from being the most cheesy litrpg, are just very short. There isn't a lot of content. I expected the story arch of the grand hunt to be over in the last book. The side characters have become very flat and just exist to serve the MC. You can really sum this up in about 5 sentences. "I grinned!" "I snorted!" "I shoved my notifications to the side!" "I activated loot!" "I got everything!" Really disappointing that this series fell into the same trap as many do, where the MC becomes the alpha and omega. I wish the author would have spent for time with Cecelia. Just take out the hours and hours of stat gains and stats.

Something always goes sideways, but this is bigger than expected. Maybe it's not an entirely bad thing, though, as mana-infected animals spreading over the world would definitely make everyone more open to the idea of the apocalypse. The question is what was Silas supposed to do about it, though. He still couldn't tell anyone who wasn't inducted about the system. It was time to get creative. If that wasn't enough, though, he still had the wild hunt hanging over his head. Seven days to go, and then he'd be thrown into whatever twisted event the system had cooked up for him.

Getting super cheesy
Reviewed: 03-14-25
The main character just has everything go right for him all the time. He is very self centered even though the author had him think about earth sometimes. The main character says he wants to help those around him, but is given EVERYTHING from "the system", like it's Santa Claus and Silas has christmas everyday. It's becoming like none of the other characters are real. They are just there to serve Silas. The series is certainly starting to lose me. The books are just so short. They say 12 or 14 hours or whatever, but almost half of that is stats and stat gains, which had become very convoluted.

Silas, now vastly more powerful than he ever anticipated, confronts a harsh truth: brute strength alone won't save his world. Beyond mere leveling up lies a complex path to salvation. Embarking on a rigorous training regimen under the guidance of a seasoned mentor, Silas hones his skills, spells, and crafting abilities alongside allies, old and new. Yet, as his prowess grows, so too does the scope of his challenges. Drawn into ancient feuds that span clans and corporations, Silas must navigate a treacherous web of alliances and enmities.

Really should be 1/2 a book
Reviewed: 03-14-25
This series is decent so far, even though it's incredibly cheesy. I'm already onto the next but losing steam. The main character is becoming king of everything, as tends to happen with these kinds of main characters. I don't mean he's becoming the most powerful, I mean he's becoming the person who "knows best" and it's becoming annoying. The president didn't call up Green Lantern everyday to ask him what he should order for lunch. That being said, I'm starting to dislike the main character. Everything always goes right for him. He never fails. There are whole chapters that are just stats, so you can skip those, but there is about 4 hours of stat gains all mixed in that you can't really skip. This book should be joined with the one before or after it. I usually won't read "machine gun" series.

Silas is inducted into the System, becoming the last in a long line of Earth's "forerunners." The rewards are great, but the danger is greater. We are not alone in the universe. The fate of five worlds hangs on how their forerunners perform. Will Silas have what it takes to win Earth a place in the multiverse? Or will Earth become another mining world stripped of all resources and left a barren husk floating in the cosmos?

Pretty decent

This was an enjoyable book with decent characters. The characters need more fleshing out, but it looks promising. I'm already on the second one. I like how he makes a small chapter dedicated to only stats, so you can skip them. I find with these types of novels that it can get very tedious listening to all the long stats. Strength increased by 1 point to 50 up from 49 which is a 20% increase from the level before and shows a 33.3% chance to be on an upswing. Speed increased by..... and on and on. I just skipped those chapters.

An interesting easy read. The antagonist was a little disappointing, but it worked. This is a little downhill from The Midnight Library, which I'm starting to think is Matt Haig at his best unfortunately. The writing was good and the characters were decent. I wouldn't call someone to recommend this book, but if they were asking for recommendations, I might include it.

Tom Hazard has a dangerous secret. He may look like an ordinary 41-year-old, but owing to a rare condition, he's been alive for centuries. Tom has lived history - performing with Shakespeare, exploring the high seas with Captain Cook, and sharing cocktails with Fitzgerald. Now, he just wants an ordinary life. So Tom moves back his to London, his old home, to become a high school history teacher - the perfect job for someone who has witnessed the city's history first hand. Better yet, a captivating French teacher at his school seems fascinated by him.

I've never hated a main character more
Reviewed: 02-26-25
This book was well written, however, the story was very poorly constructed. The main character was just a useless waste of space who did nothing but whine and torture himself for 400 years. It was full of plot holes and it needed a godlike level of suspension of disbelief. Nothing made sense. The characters acted in ways that didn't make sense. There really wasn't even much a story at all. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone.

Forty thousand years ago, humanity fled a dying Earth. Traveling in massive arkships, these brave pioneers spread out across the galaxy to find a new home. After traveling thousands of light-years, one fleet of arkships arrived at Centauri, a dense cluster of stars with a vast array of potentially habitable planets. The survivors of Earth signaled to the remaining arkships that humanity had finally found its new home among the stars.

You have to skip the first hour or so of the book. It contains a lot of fluff, information dumps, and meaningless descriptions. The names and made-up words in the first hour could all be Greek for as much as I understood anything. I almost returned the book, but when I got past that, the story was quite good. The characters were well fleshed out and the dialog was well written. im looking forward to the next one.

Story
In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue - Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is - she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

A great idea, but

This was a decent book with good characters. The MC was well fleshed out. My suspension of disbelief was abused. Also, some of the characters made choices that they wouldn't have made. The voice acting was a little sub part at times. The story often stopped to describe how 4 brushed his lips over Tris' ears or how Tris had a warm feeling leaving her hand on 4's hip. Im not going to be continuing the series.

Katniss Everdeen, girl on fire, has survived, even though her home has been destroyed. Peeta has been captured by the Capitol. District 13 really does exist. There are rebels. There are new leaders. A revolution is unfolding. It is by design that Katniss was rescued from the arena in the cruel and haunting Quarter Quell, and it is by design that she has long been part of the revolution without knowing it. District 13 has come out of the shadows and is plotting to overthrow the Capitol. Everyone, it seems, has had a hand in the carefully laid plans - except Katniss.

Weakest of the trilogy
Reviewed: 11-15-24
This third installment was contrived and developed plot holes. Katie never grows through the entire trilogy. She just goes sideways. I almost couldn't finish it. The ending is quite good but not enough to redeem the book. The author stole from everywhere in this installment, including DC Comics and James Bond. It's a good trilogy but the first book is the best. It goes downhill from there.
