About this listen

The apocalypse is coming, but only a lucky—or perhaps unlucky—few know.

Silas is inducted into the System, becoming the last in a long line of Earth's "forerunners." The rewards are great, but the danger is greater. We are not alone in the universe. The fate of five worlds hangs on how their forerunners perform.

Will Silas have what it takes to win Earth a place in the multiverse? Or will Earth become another mining world stripped of all resources and left a barren husk floating in the cosmos?

A system-enforced secret, a deadly challenge, and only a year to go. The countdown begins now!

I only have one regret listening to this book. that is that I listened to it right away and now I have to wait. as always Oswald comes out swinging and instantly sucks you in for the whole series. the narration is great also. not many people can pull off solo narration but baldtree pulls it off.

great start to a new series

Really love this story and the way it’s told so far. But all the sweet spots. Only thing is, I wish it had been a little longer. Looking forward to more!

Good introduction book

Spoken by the voice of an angel.

Unique class system with stones I like a lot especially the cost/benefit of degradation.

The only heartache I have is that it is written like an old man in a young body with the excuse of “my dad” said this or “my dad” use to like that.

Nice start to a series

There was a lot of world building in this first book so there was not much left for action.

Light on Action

Silas is the most unlikeable character that I’ve listened to in an audible book that I’ve listened to in a long time, He is the living embodiment of someone who shouldn’t have power, He is a sociopath and pretty much ruins an interesting concept.

I’ll give the second book a listen to see if he improves, and mainly because of the concept of the book, but if it doesn’t, I’m dropping the series

MC is unlikeable

I like the Stats chapters that you can listen to or skip as you like.

Decent world building and a mostly likable protagonist.

Interesting take on a charisma enhanced rogue, mage, and healer build. Silus has to live in his backyard storage shed, but there's a portal to the multi-verse in there, so it balances out.

Good start. I enjoyed that I got some portal fantasy and some real life plot lines. Being a former collegiate cross country runner and a coach for over a decade, I dwelled too much on his 29 minute 10K remark. He was super at this point but I got the impression that was what his pre-super which would put him as a very good collegiate cross country runner. Anyways, I digress because I could go on… I thought this book was good and would read more. The narration was really good.
