Why this narrator????!!!!

I really wish this narrator didn’t narrate all the books. I thought I’d crack in half hearing her pronounce — jaykub and bell lah the way she did. Her voice just doesn’t go with book Bella or movie Bella.

Story
Swann's Way is Marcel Proust's literary masterpiece and the first part of the multivolume audiobook Remembrance of Things Past. In the opening volume, the narrator travels back in time to recall his childhood and to introduce the listener to Charles Swann, a wealthy friend of the family and celebrity in the Parisian social scene. He again travels back, this time to the youth of Charles Swann in the French town of Combray, to tell the story of the love affair that took place before his own birth.

Today I finished book 7- Time Regained and immediately started Swann’s Way again just to reflect a little. I highly recommend getting Hindus Milton’s readers guide if you are serious about reading all 7 books. There are a bunch of other great companions as well. The names I cannot remember as a lay here in the dark writing this. There’s one that shows all the art work with the corresponding text that is also really helpful in getting the full picture. Im so thankful that we leave in a world with so many answers at our fingertips. It made this easier than I thought… still hard but worth the effort. I wish I could have listened to all the books narrated by Rowe but I had to go to the Neville Jason ones to finish. Those are also narrated beautifully (I prefer Rowe though).

1985 feels like a 100 years ago!
Reviewed: 01-21-24
I read this in 1985 when I was a young girl. I was absolutely infatuated with Elvis after watching one of his movies and listening on repeat to a greatest hits tape I found at the Goodwill. I never once got the ick back then… I got that a lot rereading this in my 50s. She was 14… I’ve raised 3 children who were 14 at one time and cannot imagine letting this happen. Different times, for sure. Does that make it ok— absolutely not, Sorry. I found the giggling off putting. I wish she hadn’t read it. I’m glad she told her story but I wish she addressed it differently. I don’t think she feels like she was groomed and abused all the time but you can tell that sometimes it dawns on her. Being his wife came with a lot of perks throughout her life so I’m sure it’s in there but it’s not able to be properly called out. The way he called her— my little girl - after the attempted rape by his friend/driver. Just ew.

I love this book and I’m enjoying listening to the narrator. I’m a bit annoyed by his mispronunciation of names. Particularly the name Cesare Borgia. He kept saying Caesar. It’s Chez ar ray!
I’m going to finish it but why isn’t this stuff caught? The narration is great otherwise.

Story
Nestled into the cliffs in southern Italy's Amalfi coast, Positano is an artist's vision, with rows of brightly hued houses perched above the sea and picturesque staircases meandering up and down the hillside. Santina, still a striking woman despite old age and the illness that saps her last strength, is spending her final days at her home, Villa San Vito. The magnificent 18th-century palazzo is very different from the tiny house in which she grew up. And as she decides its fate, she must confront the choices that led her here so long ago.

I listened to it for free in the plus section. I really enjoyed the authors narration. What a beautiful voice she has. I occasionally slowed it down when she read faster. Loved the story. Nothing was wrapped up in pretty little bows… like real life. I would have loved just a little more of Henry.

It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Wow! Diana told us how the Royal Family was but Harry confirms it. I view this as him finishing what his lovely mum started. The real fairy tale is not the Charles/Camilla or William/Kate story but this one- Harry and Meghan.

Number-one New York Times best-selling author Diana Gabaldon has captivated millions with her critically acclaimed Outlander novels, the inspiration for the Starz original series. From the moment Claire Randall stepped through a standing stone circle and was thrown back in time to the year 1743 - and into a world that threatens life, limb, loyalty, heart, soul, and everything else Claire has - fans have been hungry to know everything about this world and its inhabitants, particularly a Scottish soldier named Jamie Fraser.

I love the whole idea of this. I’d give it better performance reviews if it was just Davina reading but Diana Gabaldon does not have a voice for reading out loud. I find it very hard to enjoy what she’s saying because she speaks too fast and I want to constantly clear my throat for her. Is it vocal fry, I don’t know. I wish that hearing it in her own words wasn’t so painful because I am actually interested in what she’s saying. I have even tried slowing the speed down and while it’s nice to not have it read so fast her voice is still the same.

From the day that old Nana Reja found a baby abandoned under a bridge, the life of a small Mexican town forever changed. Disfigured and covered in a blanket of bees, little Simonopio is for some locals the stuff of superstition, a child kissed by the devil. But he is welcomed by landowners Francisco and Beatriz Morales, who adopt him and care for him. As he grows up, Simonopio becomes a cause for wonder to the Morales family, because when the uncannily gifted child closes his eyes, he can see what no one else can - visions of all that’s yet to come, both beautiful and dangerous.

More than a decade ago, number-one New York Times best-selling author Diana Gabaldon delighted her legions of fans with The Outlandish Companion, an indispensable guide to all the Outlander books at the time. But that edition was just a taste of things to come. Since that publication, there have been four more Outlander novels, a side series, assorted novellas, and one smash-hit Starz original television series.
