Thank you Dan Ariely for shining a light on the mechanics of misbelief and how easy it is to fall into the rabbit hole. What I thought, like with other books about behavioral economics from Dan and other authors: I hope this book doesn’t get into the wrong hands ;). Good read (or listen).

People do not always feel comfortable with brutal honesty, but if I could choose between people being brutally honest with me or lying to make me feel good, I would choose brutal honesty every time, because brutal honesty shows also that you care about something deeply. And this is what this book is about. Loved it.

Loved the book. Had learned about fixed and growth mindset in another program and have able to deepen my understanding so much more through the book. Carole Dweck uses a lot stories to bring across her points, yet sometimes it felt a bit overloaded with stories.

After having already read Kahneman, Thaler, Sunstein and Ariely, this book was a refreshing refresher that gave me a few new examples while not adding anything new to the underlying theories.

I learned much from this book for my own activities. The structure of the book is also the building instructions for your non-profit or social business. VERY VALUABLE!!! However, this not being my first non-fiction audiobook, the narration was the worst I’ve encountered so far. Two things: First, the book was read much too fast. I had to slow it down to 0.8x to make understandable (regular speed almost felt like the medication warnings at the end of a commercial). Second, take a breath, C.J.! Maybe because the speed, there were also no breathers between paragraphs or examples. Sometimes I lost track of which consequence refers to which example. Duration of an audiobook is not a decision criteria for me. I choose a book for content and don’t spending 8, 12 or more hours with a book. What I care about is learning and giving the book room to have an impact on my knowledge and skills. This book is to good and important to be rushed. Redo?

I think, David Aaron Baker is Odd

Where does Odd Apocalypse rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Odd Apocalypse ranks very high. Even though the novelty of Odd's special situation has worn off, the endearing biographical style sometimes let's you forget that you're listening to a gruesome story of death and despair.

Which character – as performed by David Aaron Baker – was your favorite?

To me, David Aaron Baker is Odd. If they should ever decide to switch narrators in future books, I will probably have a hard time getting used to it.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

A little bit of crying and lots of laughing in the most inappropriate moments when Odd tells his story with his odd, unintended uniquely humorous style.
