so cool but left me wondering

Solid little set up giving us a great peak into Midnight kids pre-leaving. left me with a ton of question.
Kind of left me wondering if I missed something like somehow its someone we know who is in the silver car, like did i miss something and its jake or was the cousin trying to get with jake.... cute story but i am going to relisten to the first book to see if it was a background scene that foretold something more important.
Or could Danielle be setting us up for a teen spin off (that would be cool a way to write the group in a different genre like teen scary, coming of age, it would be cool to see teen versions reactions. To gain all the bonus vforeshadowing knowledge and fill in some of those questions we all have about what all went down and why/what she did in those early years .
To maybe be able to have that bridge to introduce a younger crowd into the books giving a chance for multi generation book groups etc)
As usual though the writing clarity and depth of the storyline with great even for such a short story which goes to show just how talented of a writer Danielle is.
I have listened and or read every book she currently has out not once have I been let down or had to give up part way through!!!

Lana Fleming’s sister has vanished from the set of TV’s hottest show, and no one seems to care. Desperate for answers, Lana sneaks in as an extra, only to get stranded with Griffin Hart, an A-list action star with a reputation for good abs and bad decisions. Though Griffin didn’t expect to be cast as a librarian’s sidekick in a real-life thriller, he’s weirdly into it—and into her. Even more unsettling—she sees right through his playboy persona. But their meet-cute soon turns deadly when they uncover a Hollywood scandal for the ages.

unique while being universal in its ability to let everyone completely relate to it

This was a whim listen and omg it surprised me how it grabbed my attention right off the bat. the plot is simple in its core allowing everyone to quickly identify and place themselves within its world.
Then in this slick and smooth way it grabs you up thrusts you onto this rollercoaster of mystery, attraction and some how also peeling away at the edges of what it is we do as a society to those we admire, we pay for entertainment and how we as people cope with the world physically and mentally. From points of view that should be hands down opposite we actually are surprised to see how similar each behaviors actually are.
All the while spinning back to focus on a mystery that could have dire effects on the very people we have come to want to protect from every aspect of conflict an pain they seem to careening towards.
The plot is simple yes but so whole layered with secrets, believeable character, cunning twists with a fair share of emotional and collateral damage that we as the readers/listeners don't dare to turn away.
Lana was brave while being humble and sensitive. The rest of the characters brought so much to the table that you watch her forcefully grow with each new challenge and puzzle. Watch her become more confident and just a little crazy as she pushes on to find her sister even as her life tips out of control. Loved this story, was expecting a cute and slightly adventurous romantic comedy and got so much more then I could ever imagine.
Laughs, Tears, Jump Scares, Intrigue and Just Enough Steam That You May Think You Left The Kettle On. (Spice level maybe 2 or 3 out of 5, foreplay an some epic fantasy level make out scenes before fading to black for the actual sex scenes)

I have been weary of RPG style books, I grew up with D&D but just didn't see how a book full of tracking character stats an quest like formats would be a story that felt seamless and smooth. I just felt it would fill bog down, confusing and a ton of numbers to try to keep track of.
My mom got the book because her like I love books featuring a library, librarian and filled with humor. She had it playing as usual while cleaning up in the kitchen and I caught a few minutes of it, based on how it made me laugh an seemed truly interesting. So I took the bait and got to listening.
I am so so so glad I did. Not only did I instantly connect with the unique, vivid and quick witted characters, I found myself really enjoying the way this author used the RPG format, allowing it to be there but very smooth and truly easy to catch in to.
The story line somehow took a well used troup of opran being sucked into a foreign world and made it completely new fresh and left me obsessed with how wide open the plot was leaving you unable to guess where an how it would develop from here. Something that happens really rarely for me as I read over 300 books a year and can usually read the first chapter or two then pretty much be able to call the basics will play out.
Then there is the narrator....now I have a few I'm a die hard fan for, Amanda Roncolli being the Queen Bee of that list. Andrea blew me away!!! like I had to keep checking for co-narrators because the voices and personalities she pulls off with such natural ease was absolutely was completely amazing. I will not only be getting the next books of this series but will 1000% be only litsening to this series and then start devouring everything of hers (and most likely checking out KT's other books as well) that I can find.
Over all this book is like taking Belle, the Talking Furniture and turning Beast's library in the entire castle, then through in a foreign living tech system with a book based magical learning theme all the while sprinkling a dash of Lord of the rings, Earth's pop culture and some aspects of the 80s cartoon Dungeons and Dragons like the part of character being skilled but vastly different with humorously humanlike flaws having to relay on an all knowing but only cryptically revealing Dungeon Master as their mentor (who is more hologram most of then time than actually present)!!!
Trust me it all comes together creating a world, storyline and cast of characters that will grab your attention and never let go!! Links, Quinn, Malachi and of Dottie has already claimed a forever place in my heart, they have definitely been added to the top of my will buy in paperback to add to my top characters shrine shelf.

Faster than you can say hocus pocus I'm unpacking my bags and settling into the guest room of my parents' house, trying to ignore the creeping sensation that I'll never break free again. Love this new series. It's fresh, filled with both humor and intriguing plot lines. Between Danielle and Amanda I always find a great cast of characters, strong unique storylines and a very pleasurable listen. Clean story that still finds the perfect ways to build attraction between characters. So even great for teens or high leveled preteens. Clever uses of paranormal powers always keeps each series of Danielle's feeling fresh and totally wide open with possibilities.

Story
Ashley Perrin is fresh out of college and starting a job as a community liaison for the Third District–the city’s only sector with more alien residents than humans. Ashley’s barely found where the paper clips are kept when she’s beset with constituent complaints–from too much noise at the Annual Lupidian Celebration Parade to a trip-and-fall chicken to a very particular type of alien hornet that threatens the very city itself. And if that’s not terrifying enough, Ashley is next up at the office karaoke night.

I don't mind sci fi and have listened to an read several books in the genre. It's a tricky genre though. If written to simple and plain makes it lack luster, feel to earthy and creates a stage in your head that feels more like humans being thrust into some crazy masks and tentacle covered costume. when authors write it's world with fullly analyzed scientific explanations for every other worldly species and tools ....it can get so complicated so fast that one either feels the need to have to try to keep up creating note books full of cheat sheets and diagrams keeping the reader from being able to enjoy true immersion of the story. Often for the reader who is reading to relax, It makes it so very strange and overly complicated that you can't even get a true feel for the characters, places and events that you give up on the book entirely.
So true masters of Science Fiction are those that can walk that very fine line of other worldly fantastical while keeping the base story just earthy enough that the reader can relax and let themselves have fun imagineing all the cool different species and tools.
John is truly a master. so much so that he is even able to add so much humor and dramatics without making the world come off as an alien & human comedy sitcom where its more goofy then anything.
This was like a fantastic episode of the Office (post Alien invasion version)
The characters, especially our main newly hired constituent service representative are so perfect and nature that you almost forget this is not a real place, she is not an actual person.
I sorely wish this was a series featuring all the shenanigans, alien confrontations, inner office exchanges and political events gone side ways.
The world, the people, the plot and the style of writing is truly so unique, fresh, good humored and over all full of out of this world creativity. Instantly I felt bonded and attached to the entire cast, right at home in the world that has many similarities as ours while feeling infinitely 10000% more fun and interesting!!!
Please please please write more about this office, this specific crew of hands on political servants of the people and most of all think about building an interesting slight age gap relationship between our Constitutional Servant and a certain Animal Control officer. Doest have to be a "romance" novel but more like Bones with her and Booth doing having this chemistry while they solve cases, consult and be there when ever the other needs any kind of support, to blow of frustration or simple share a beer and a sign with!!

I love these Hanukkah books by Liz Maverick. I came across Booked for the holidays and not only did I find the characters so honestly intriguing and adorable but loved how she layered in some Jewish traditions and foods etc. I found myself realizing that apart from what I assume most people not Jewish know of the holiday that there was so much I never knew about.
Don't get me wrong though centered around Hanukkah days that book and this whole series is not pushing it down your throat, preaching or even trying to sway you over to their side lol
They are fabulous stories of love, comfort, family, growth and being yourself sprinked with snowflakes and humor.
It's nice to be able to have a holiday feel good book with also being not another Christmas themed one. So I am enjoying my immersion into the magical land of Hanukkah and meeting some great new pals along the way. So off to book #2!!!
