About this listen

The Ghost of Halloween Past heads to Winterspell in this time-traveling tale of a bygone spooky season.
High school senior Rosella Midnight heads to the town Harvest Party hoping to score a free candy bar and avoid her overachieving cousin. But when the festival's clairvoyant asks for help, Rosella's unique magical talent becomes the key to unraveling a startling theft.

Aided by a ragtag team of animal informants, Rosella must navigate high school drama, small-town secrets, and her own self-doubts to crack the case. But when the path to the culprit leads her a little too close to home, Rosella wonders if perhaps she should have just gone trick-or-treating.

Can Rosella decipher clues from a troublesome stray cat? Or will a murder of crows prove her best ally? And most importantly, can she unmask the crystal ball thief in time to snag the last caramel apple at the festival?

A good story and nice prequel

Normally when an author says they’re doing some kind of prequel I stay away because in 99% of the cases it changes the existing stories. However, this author wrote a short and simple prequel to the main storyline that doesn’t change the existing line at all. This story helps us understand the main story line better. We follow the main character as a teenager as she tries to solve a mystery. It was nice and simple. We get to learn more about why some of her relatives dislike her and grab for power they’re trying to do. This is a good story and it helps people to understand true friends never leave even when grandma may tan their hides if they don’t get the candy corn.

so cool but left me wondering

Solid little set up giving us a great peak into Midnight kids pre-leaving. left me with a ton of question.

Kind of left me wondering if I missed something like somehow its someone we know who is in the silver car, like did i miss something and its jake or was the cousin trying to get with jake.... cute story but i am going to relisten to the first book to see if it was a background scene that foretold something more important.

Or could Danielle be setting us up for a teen spin off (that would be cool a way to write the group in a different genre like teen scary, coming of age, it would be cool to see teen versions reactions. To gain all the bonus vforeshadowing knowledge and fill in some of those questions we all have about what all went down and why/what she did in those early years .

To maybe be able to have that bridge to introduce a younger crowd into the books giving a chance for multi generation book groups etc)

As usual though the writing clarity and depth of the storyline with great even for such a short story which goes to show just how talented of a writer Danielle is.
I have listened and or read every book she currently has out not once have I been let down or had to give up part way through!!!

Candy Apples and Clairvoyants

Lets take a trip back to Winterspell and the town Harvest Festival where Rosella is hoping to still have time to have a hay ride with her boyfriend Jake. While waiting for Jake to get off work she runs into the towns clairvoyant who ask for help in tracking down her stolen crystal ball. Using her unique magical talent can Rosella and her team of animal informants help find who stole the crystal ball in time.

This was a cute novella that can be read in one sitting. I enjoyed taking a trip back to Winterspell and getting a glimpse at Rosella as a high schooler and her point of view. You can really feel all the fall vibes with the festival.

I have really enjoyed this whole series and can’t wait for the next one hit audio.

A great novella

This is a fun little trip into Rosella’s past where we get to see her and her sister help solve their first mystery. This is a great addition to the Winterspell collection of stories.
