Story
For the audio book version, Dr. Warren Farrell personally rewrote the highlights of The Myth of Male Power as a dialogue. The questions are similar to what others will ask you when you discuss these issues. You’ll have Dr. Farrell’s best answers. The Myth of Male Power helps each family member understand that genuine power is neither status nor money, but “control over one's life.” He documents that virtually every society that has survived has done so by persuading its sons to be disposable--whether in war or in work; and therefore indirectly as dads. And disposability is not power. Considered the Bible of men's studies—yet highly empathetic to women (Dr. Farrell was repeatedly elected to the Board of the National Organization for Women in NYC)-- the meticulously researched The Myth of Male Power takes the listener on a captivating journey around the world, throughout history, biology, the Bible, the law, and everyday life, challenging every currently-held assumption about men, women and the family.

Eye-opening and sobering interview.

This will open your eyes to the biases and injustices toward modern men. It’s not a book but an interview, which I wasn’t expecting, but it’s a worthwhile listen.

The audio quality of the narration isn’t ideal but it doesn’t take away from the content. Useful for monogamous and non-monogamous people. Highly recommend!

In this national best-seller, Robert Bly explores the idea of the missing father in contemporary society. He draws upon a cornucopia of legend and literature - as varied as the poetry of William Blake, Jungian psychology, and Sioux initiation rituals - to encourage men in their pursuit of the “inner warrior.”

I’m nearly in tears writing this review. After my fifth or sixth listen, I continue to reap the rewards of this masterpiece of both narration and content.
This work speaks to men as powerfully today as it did when written, igniting a soul fire that society has been trying to extinguish for generations. Men are no longer encouraged to be warriors or kings, yet fall into confusion when the women in their lives look at them with secret disgust for stifling that energy.
This book is a reminder of the power, grace, and nobility of the mature, integrated, and initiated man.
