About this listen

Attachment theory has entered the mainstream, but most discussions focus on how we can cultivate secure monogamous relationships. What if, like many people, you’re striving for secure, happy attachments with more than one partner?

Polyamorous psychotherapist Jessica Fern breaks new ground by extending attachment theory into the realm of consensual nonmonogamy. Using her nested model of attachment and trauma, she expands our understanding of how emotional experiences can influence our relationships. Then, she sets out six specific strategies to help you move toward secure attachments in your multiple relationships.

Polysecure is both a trailblazing theoretical treatise and a practical guide. It provides nonmonogamous people with a new set of tools to navigate the complexities of multiple loving relationships and offers radical new concepts that are sure to influence the conversation about attachment theory.

Recommend for anyone in any type of relationship!

This content is so rich an helpful in understanding the self and the partner(s). As a psychotherapist, I read this to better support my clients in consensual non-monogamous relationships. Jessica Fern did a wonderful job talking about attachment and how to apply practices to the self and various relationships.

For everyone & every relationship

This book is the best practical guide to attachment styles I’ve read. No matter what type of relationships you have, or if you’re single, it provides a powerful lens to examine how you relate.

essential therapy!

most helpful book EVER on relationships and self-examination, not just for polyamory at all, but how we carry baggage from our childhood and unknowingly impact ALL our adult relationships.

A bit to idealistic

I feel the author had biases against hierarchical polyamory which I felt was not fair, as that is my preference over egalitarian polyamory for many practical and valid reasons. I got a lot out of this book, but after 9 years of being poly I question if I even am in alignment with that lifestyle anymore. Fern states that polyamory is an “insecure relationship style” and that really resonated with me. It made me realize maybe that I actually crave something more secure like a monogamous or monogamish relationship. The 1st half of the book is helpful to anyone, as it’s all about attachment theory. Even monogamous people can get a lot out of this book.

If you’re in any type of relationship this is for you

I really enjoyed this one. The first part talks a lot about recognizing your attachment history. After reading that, I think it’s important that anyone who chooses to be in any kind of relationship read this one.

Informivitve & interesting!

This book is full of information and insight! It is delivered with care. I often felt like I was being hugged by the authors voice & words. Opening up a world of complex relationship models as well as how to function as considerate human beings no matter your lifestyle or relationship practices. Alan Alda wrote in his autobiography (Never have your dog stuffed and other things I've learned) "Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Scrub them off every once in a while, or the light won't come in." This book is a refreshing, professional window cleaning!
