I didn't know if I would like these books at first, it was a different sort of book than what I typically listen to. I have thoroughly enjoyed both the stories and the narrator.
happy to see there are more books to come, can't wait.

Story
We won. But so did he. His final act damaged my Well, the source of my magic, perhaps beyond repair. My body is failing as my own powers slowly kill me. I have to find a cure before it's too late, but there are so few people who can even understand what's wrong, much less how to go about fixing it. Not even my fellow Archons know how to help, and my sources are coming up dry. Desperation is driving me into branches of magic some might consider dangerous and that others would gladly kill me for just looking at.

Good, but also disappointing

Ray Porter is great.
Characters are enjoyable.
Ultimately though, despite the good I was really disappointed in the MC acting very out of character to move the plot along. I just found it so unbelievable it left a real blemish on the overall experience.

Story
University was supposed to be a time of exploration, of learning, and new discoveries... I probably should have guessed that my problems weren't just going to vanish because I was feeling optimistic. The Fairy peoples have cut themselves off, taking important parts of me with them. A new threat emerges, wrapped in a righteousness that serves only to conceal a dreadful rot. Demons start to circle, Black Magic grows in power and influence, and my old enemies are starting to band together in the service of a new darkness.

Story
My twin brother is a Wizard and thinks he's the only magician in the family. It's actually a little funny that he hasn't suspected anything different over the last 17 years - with my constantly need to keep his idiot face out of danger and stupidity - but that's not today's problem. You see, someone's trying to kill him.

Story
Born the night that the Archmagus Valeria died, Endrance was gifted with the talent and mind for magic. He'd proven that he was more than capable of mastering the forces of magic and intellectual study at the hands of a master as mad as he was crafty. He was one of the Scribed; mages who had undergone a painful yet powerful ritual that granted them the ability to tattoo spells upon their very skin. He had finally proven himself to his master, and was free to practice magic at his own pace.

Story
My twin brother has started to go mad, and my powers are the cause. Nobody knows how to stop it, and all the facts are telling me that unless I can cure him, my brother is very likely going to try and kill me soon. And that's just how this whole mess starts. From there I run face first into a whole stack of problems, including a crazy werewolf girl, a large pack of flesh-eating ghouls, and a trip to the greatest repository of magical knowledge in the world, where someone like me is definitely not welcome.

Story
My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. It’s a lonely life. I don’t let anyone get close...people who get close to me end up dead. Why? I’m a wizard. The world’s only wizard, as far as I know.

If you like Craig's other books and don't have a deep hatred of a dog talking occasionally I think you will enjoy the book. RC was excellent as always.
I went into it skeptical after reading reviews from other readers who I now suspect didnt finish the book, but I was pleasantly surprised. Overall I really enjoyed the story. It feels like a good start for a an excellent series.

I enjoy the loose format, feels like a fun chat with friends over dinner. Conversations meander with no obvious focus, but I find it refreshing to get a raw conversation. Feels like a little peek behind the curtain. Authentic, sometimes clever and always funny.
