About this listen

One troop of beyond-Tier-1 operators gone completely off the reservation. One platoon of stalwart Army Rangers, pledged to protect them, but now pushed too far. A thousand tribes of enemy fighters who just want them all gone.

Black Squadron is a secret cadre within DEVGRU (a.k.a. SEAL Team Six), consisting of master sniper and recon experts who carry out sensitive and dangerous advance force operations (AFO) in the most lethal cesspools and ash-heaps around the war-torn globe. They are an elite within an elite (within an elite).

But now they are being deployed to the darkest heart of the last days of the blood-drenched Syrian civil war, where they are surrounded by thousands of Syrian regulars, dozens of head-hacking Islamist militias, the hardest of the hardcore ISIS and al-Qaeda remnants, fierce Kurdish Peshmerga freedom fighters, ruthless Iranian Qods Force agitators, as well as Putin’s hyper-lethal and utterly merciless pipehitters from Spetsnaz GRU.

They’ve also been saddled with a blocking force, a platoon of US Army Rangers from the 75th Ranger Regiment - a unit that has fought in every US engagement from the invasion of Sicily to Black Hawk Down. The Rangers are upright, loyal, and never leave their brothers behind. But now the Rangers may be the only ones who can stop a rogue Black Squadron from leaving everyone bleeding out in the street, and also kicking off a shooting war between two nuclear powers.

Black Hawk Down meets Training Day in this explosive collision of two legendary special-operations units battling to survive and prevail in the most dangerous city on the planet.

Awesome

Great book all around...
My only complaint is the use of the term assault rifle that's a made up term and it shouldn't be in these types of books.

everything about this book was great

this is a great story with a superb narrator.. of course it is RC Bray my favorite. the character development is well done. the description of the tactics and attitudes of the Rangers and the Black Squadron were engaging and well thought out. not sure what the author's background is but he seems to command a good knowledge of military weaponry, tactics and ethos and does a great job using them to tell a great story.

Unnecessary sub-sub plot

Put politics into a useless sub plot that ruined the story for any future readers

Excellent book

Really enjoyed this book. Not quite like Arisen, it definitely has a different pace. Starts of quite slow but quickly picks up pace. Perhaps a bit short, 9 hours isn't a lot for a good audiobook. One minor gripe is that the rangers are portrayed as not super professional and kinda childish. From what I know the actual rangers are very much professional and highly regarded. Curious if there will be a second book. Would definitely buy. If you're a fan of military fiction, you can't really miss this one. R.C. Bray does an outstanding job as always. Can't go wrong with that man :)

Black squadron

I like storyline. Don’t know our helicopters could be nice out of the sky like that.
we need to work on that. The president storyline with some media. Rumor was interesting how you tied it all together

Scary

This story is too close to want could happen in our near future! If our future comes to pass with this possible outcome, it still shows Putins influence what he wants if we allow a putz like trump to become the leader of this country, he will of course bend his knee to him. I’m thankful this is only fiction.

Exceptional narrative of intense urban firefight reminiscent of the Battle of the Black Sea/Somalia

A few liberties taken that are truly fiction...such as women serving in a special operations assault unit. They are capable in every way but simply have yet to prove physically capable of a male professional athlete - which is the level of a special operator. The standards are being lowered to allow this (by cowardly civilian leaders who have never had to defend themselves or their country in combat), but this can only be taken so far.
