About this listen
You're about to discover over 1000 French verbs exemplified in French & English sentences.
Learning a new language is never an easy task, but it doesn't have to be hard. By learning the 1000 most used verbs in a language, you give yourself a fantastic foundation to start building upon to your road to fluency.
In my audiobook, 1000 French Verbs in context, I give you over 1000 of the most common French verbs used today. You are given the verb in French and English with examples of the verb in a sentence, also in French and English. No more confusion about how to use the verb.
One thousand words are a perfect number to aim for. It is important to give yourself goals to stay motivated and to keep yourself learning. Imagine if you learnt 10 words a day. Five in the morning and five at night. After only 100 days ( that's just over three months), you would have access to 1000 verbs in your vocabulary. That really is quite a lot and would give you an excellent grasp of the language.
Far too many people expect to be speaking a new language far too quickly without putting in the time or effort. As a language teacher, I can testify to seeing this too many times. I can also say that by exposing yourself to a new language daily, you will surely learn it. It does take time and effort but 10 words a day will give you a massive boost. If you prefer a slower pace, then you could set yourself different goals.
The key to learning new vocabulary is to see it in context, that means in use. Seeing how it's used will help you remember the word a lot better. It is also important to understand how that word should be used in a sentence.

Kassabova was born in Sofia, Bulgaria, and grew up under the drab, muddy, gray mantle of one of communism’s most mindlessly authoritarian regimes. Escaping with her family as soon as possible after the collapse of the Berlin Wall, she lived in Britain, New Zealand, and Argentina, and several other places. But when Bulgaria was formally inducted to the European Union she decided it was time to return to the home she had spent most of her life trying to escape. What she found was a country languishing under the strain of transition. This two-part memoir of Kapka’s childhood and return explains life on the other side of the Iron Curtain.

Story
Growing up in the beautiful mountains of Berchtesgaden - just steps from Adolf Hitler's alpine retreat - Irmgard Hunt had a seemingly happy, simple childhood. In her powerful, illuminating, and sometimes frightening memoir, Hunt recounts a youth lived under an evil but persuasive leader. As she grew older, the harsh reality of war - and a few brave adults who opposed the Nazi regime - aroused in her skepticism of National Socialist ideology and the Nazi propaganda she was taught to believe in.

When Rosamond Halsey Carr first arrived in Africa, she didn't realize that she would spend the rest of her life there. As a young fashion illustrator living in New York City in the 1940s, she seemed the least likely candidate for such a life of adventure. But marriage to a hunter-explorer took her to what was then the Belgian Congo, and divorce left her determined to stay on in neighboring Rwanda as the manager of a flower plantation.

Story

Story
The novel that set the stage for his modern classic, The Satanic Verses, Shame is Salman Rushdie's phantasmagoric epic of an unnamed country that is "not quite Pakistan". In this dazzling tale of an ongoing duel between the families of two men - one a celebrated wager of war, the other a debauched lover of pleasure - Rushdie brilliantly portrays a world caught between honor and humiliation.

Story
It is the story of a boy growing up in the war-torn Jerusalem of the 40s and 50s in a small apartment crowded with books in 12 languages and relatives speaking nearly as many. His mother and father, both wonderful people, were ill-suited to each other. When Oz was 12 and a half years old, his mother committed suicide - a tragedy that was to change his life. He leaves the constraints of the family and the community of dreamers, scholars, and failed businessmen to join a kibbutz.

Great!
A good way to learn meaning of verbs without all the conjugations. An extra was all the words in the sentences that have context.

Easy to use
Would you listen to 1000 French Verbs in Context again? Why?
Yes most likely several times. I love to learn new things. This is an easy to listen to audio book. It would have been nice to have a chance to practice the verb as I went along. I did need to stop and try the words and rewind and listen to it again. If I was traveling I would use the audio book to try to pick up new words to use. Personally I think learning a second language is a very value added life skill.
Which character – as performed by Cait Frizzell – was your favorite?
Cait has good pronunciation and enunciation. It made the book easy to listen too.

Good overview
What does Cait Frizzell bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Cait has good pronunciation and enunciation.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No. It's meant to be listened to sporadically. It's a great list of verbs, but for an audiobook, I would have liked some "listen and repeat" of the verbs and usage.
Any additional comments?
I wished there were an accompanying PDF that would allow me to see the spelling of the verbs. I also wish it went a little more in depth in conjugating and/or giving more examples for usage.

Practice your French
What made the experience of listening to 1000 French Verbs in Context the most enjoyable?
I liked how the audiobook was organized-each chapter contains verbs starting with a different letter. This allows the listener to jump from letter to letter, using the chapter number as a guide. I also liked that the pattern was: French verb/English translation/French Sentence/English translation
What did you like best about this story?
N/A
Which scene was your favorite?

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No! This is a book that I would listen to in "chunks"-with lots of practice between "chunks"

Learning French by Listening via Repetitions
1000 French Verbs in Context: A Self-Study Guide for French Language Learners is perfect as a book to beginners as a dictionary. The beginners would need to know how to use the French verb(s) in a sentence.
As an audiobook, 1000 French Verbs in Context is perfect for beginner/intermediate students. The audiobook provide a very good listening tool as how the verb is pronounced and how the verb is used in a sentence. The only downsize is that the student/learner will have to rewind back and forth to listen the French pronunciation of verb and how it is use in a sentence. The audiobook is perfect to listen during those long commutes of repetition to master the language.
I was given this audiobook by the author/narrator/publisher via Audiobook Blast in exchange of an honest review. I was not compensated or influenced in any way for writing this review.

Low Frequency – Power French is Better
Any additional comments?
In order to get an idea of how low frequency some of the material in 1000 French Verbs in Context is, just listen to the audio sample.
“He lighted the way by opening the windows”.
Then they go even lower in usability by using the “passé simple” which is only used in literature and never in everyday speech.
I would recommend Power French Verbs 1 & 2 if you really want to use high frequency verbs in real daily conversation.

Expand your vocabulary
This book is best for people with at minimum a basic level of French, who are looking to expand their vocabulary. A pdf companion would be useful though, even if it was just a list of the words in the order they are presented in the book, as an extra aid in identifying and learning the new vocabulary. Other than that, the author suggests a handy way to use the book, and while I haven’t gotten up to learning 10 words a day, I am steadily increasing the words I can recognize and use.
Some of the words I already know, but that actually helps with building confidence because I celebrate when I recognize the word before the English portion is given. I was in France at the beginning of this year and while I have enough basic French to get by in most situations, I definitely noticed the limits of my vocabulary in the more involved conversations. This book is helping solve that problem. I would recommend to anyone with a similar situation…except use the book BEFORE you go :)
