About this listen

Real French people don’t speak like your textbook…so it’s no wonder you feel unprepared when it’s your turn to speak! Try the StoryLearning method, and dive into a real-world, gripping drama between six characters that helps you learn natural spoken French in the process.

Created by Olly Richards, internationally-renowned language teacher and author, this proven method of the immersive experience not only entertains, it gives you the skills to master realistic encounters in shops, cafés, and other, everyday scenarios!

In this story, when a mysterious painting appears on the wall of the Louvre, Detective Claire Gentil is called in to investigate. Soon, she discovers that the painting is full of clues about five different crimes that will be committed somewhere in Paris by the end of the day. As the race around the city to stop this crime wave starts, more questions arise: Who is behind this network of organized crime? And who is trying to warn Detective Gentil?

As the story unfolds, you’ll learn typical expressions in Parisian French and neutral dialogue that are used in French-speaking countries all over the world. And get full confidence in the words, phrases and expressions you need to blend in with the locals wherever you go!

Engaging and enjoyable!

Loved the voice actor! Very engaging and fun story, I enjoyed it even as an advanced learner (C1-C2). Bought the Kindle PDF too. Highly recommend!

Excellent!

Great story and narration. Enjoyed reading a few chapters at a time and then listening with audible for a second read.

Great learning tool

Fun story but needs authentic female voices. The story was easy to understand with excellent diction. The story flowed well with a surprise happy ending.

Great if you don’t mind that men do the female & children’s voices

I started listening to this audio book to improve my French listening comprehension. The story was interesting & funny at times. It was a bit weird that they have men doing the voices of the women & children & unfortunately the narrator was no Jim Dale, I’m sad to say. Nevertheless I’m glad that I listened to this audio book. It has improved my ability to understand conversational French & that was my goal.

Good learning experience

I've got this book to refresh my French and I'd give 5 stars if not for the fact that all personagens, indifferent of gender and age, are played by a male adult. It would add to the learning experience to hear women and / or children voices. Otherwise it's a good book for intermediate level

Enjoyed the Story!!

I wanted to improve my French, but I was not expecting to enjoy the story. The characters are interesting, and the challenges were enough to get me into the story. Is this the next Harry Potter? Certainly not. But after suffering through some other graded readers, I was very happy with this one. I might buy the Kindle or physical book to read along as I didn't understand everything. But, overall, it was fun!

Don’t buy unless your french is already perfect

In the description if this book, it indicates that vocabulary lists and conversation summaries are available. They are not. I am unable to locate an accompanying PDF, nor is there any place on the recording that gives these summaries of the conversations, nor was I able to locate vocabulary lists. What a HUGE disappointment! This feels like such a potential for helping with listening skills, but since the parts that would help decode what I can’t quite understand are missing, I’m kinda feeling ripped off. This would be too easy for someone who doesn’t need a little help, but it’s too challenging for someone who does.
Edit: I just got in touch with the author of this book, and found out you can PURCHASE the written version as a kindle download. It should have come free as a PDF (which is what most language audible books do). Not expensive, but just an update so you will know before getting this book.
