Excellent teaching, need more like this

I finished both Paul Noble's Next Steps French and Next Steps German and was happy to see this more advanced French Conversation. He is an excellent teacher at times providing insights I've never heard anywhere else.

In this French Conversation he continues his step-by-step approach that brings you to the point of saying full sentences contained in each of the dialogues. But the focus in this course is on understanding rapidly spoken French. That's the way it's actually spoken among native speakers. I lived in France for over a year and can testify how important this kind of learning is. People rarely speak in the clear, slow way that is mostly presented in language learning materials. But this course is an exception. You have to understand the abbreviated way that they talk and then eventually reproduce that yourself.

For the first 20 dialogues, he provides the same kind of step-by-step approach you should be used to from Next Steps French. But then for the last 15 dialogues, he doesn't hold your hand like that and you must become a little more independent. But all the dialogues are there for you to look at as you listen in an included PDF, which also contains some helpful notes in places. Throughout dialogues are repeated multiple times so that you become thoroughly familiar with them.

Finally, there is a testing section where you hear the English from these dialogues and must come up with the French on your own during a gap that is provided. This testing is similar to Pimsleur (which I have also gone through) but here much more time is provided for your answers (often too much time).

Of course you only get out of it what you put in, so you do need to put a lot of effort in. For example, even in the early lessons I forced myself to be able to reproduce the abbreviated French phrases based on the English alone. This was so difficult and I found myself making so many mistakes that I ended up virtually memorizing the dialogues. But that's the kind of intense experience I need in order to understand and reproduce rapidly-spoken French. So I say a big thank you to Paul Noble, and please keep the advanced material coming. In German and Italian too, please!
