About this listen

"This book is really riveting and I found myself grimacing, denying, experiencing shock and awe, nodding and finally understanding so much about her saga and attempts to protect her dying husband from one medical error after another. If you want a good read, pick up 108 Days." - Toni Brayer, MD. Following an explosive electrical accident, Curtis is admitted to one of America's top hospitals with a severe burn injury to 35% of his body.
Recovery is soon derailed due to an error in the radiology department which he is not expected to survive. Deadly hospital acquired infections are prevalent and easily spread. Complications, setbacks and additional injuries requiring further treatment are routinely provoked by inconsistent caregivers and chronic neglect.
Curtis hovers on the brink of death while his wife, Lisa and her sister, Dawn battle daily in a desperate fight to save his life.

I'm not crazy about the AI voice but it didn't bother me as bad as it did some. I love listening to true stories and this one was no exception. It is horrifying to hear about all that happened but is is a reality of situations that can and do happen.

Tragic story

Love and a persistent wife conquer all, unbelievably Curtis survived this horrific ordeal. I just shook my head every time something else bad happened... again. The way they were treated is disgusting.

Brutally honesy

The story initially struck me as a distressed wife and mother navigating a tragic injury to her husband. The AI narration caused me to have my finger on the delete button more than once- so annoying- mispronounced words, emphasis on the wrong syllable, weird pauses in the middle of a sentence UGH!! However, the story kept me coming back and I’m glad I suffered through the awful narration because the story was gripping, enraging, enthralling and raw. The feeling of “I know he’s going to die” and then “I just know he’s going to live” is so human and relatable to anyone who has dealt with a life threatening illness or injury. The incompetence of the doctors and staff at the hospital would be unbelievable except her attention to detail, backs her take on events. I definitely felt her pain and frustration and feeling of the admins just pacifying her concerns but doing nothing to help. The gaslighting by Drs and Nurses that “they never said that, or the wife misunderstood” was infuriating. The fact that no one seemed to talk to each other and no one seemed to understand the plan of care for a gravely ill man makes me sick.
I would listen to her sequel 108 decisions, but sadly it has the same AI narration and I just can’t do it again.

Atrocious care

The story is interesting but AI voices still have a long way to go. It would have been a lot more pleasant if read by someone that conveyed emotion in all the right places.

AI Voice isn’t great.

I had the unfortunate experience of living through this type of hell in 2023 with my Mom. In the end 116 days… after neglect beyond imagine by health care providers and administrators she passed away. This story was difficult to listen but yet kept me hooked once I got past the AI voice. It’s gut wrenching but it was good- only in the sense it kept me wanting to listen more. It’s horrifying that people treat others this way. Especially when they need help and care the most. It’s a definite must listen.

An absolute truth of our failed health care system.

First thank you! This is a must read book for everyone. I see this same frustration across professional fields. These are people we should be able to trust in our most desperate times of need, Yet, ... prepare yourself, it's not easy and heart wrenching
