About this listen

Knocking at death’s door. Bargaining for a second chance. Seems like a heck of a way to find out about an alien invasion....

Vietnam vet Albert Jenkins is battling a bulging waistline and a passion for drink. So when a towering pile of scrap rocket parts falls and crushes the stubborn curmudgeon, he thinks it’s finally the end. But just as he’s about to take one final breath, a snarky alien parasite offers him a deal: His life in return for sharing his body.

With a little coaxing from his new pop-culture-loving inner resident, AJ’s broken carcass improves so much that even an old flame is impressed. But his bright outlook fizzles when he discovers he's at ground zero of a galactic conspiracy to strip Earth of precious resources humans don't even know exist.

Can the unlikely partners join forces and use AJ's rusty military skills to raise the alarm? Or, will the alien invaders put him down once and for all?

Junkyard Pirate is the first book in an imaginative space opera series. If you like grizzled soldiers, clever twists and turns, and intergalactic tactical pairings, then you’ll love Jamie McFarlane’s fast-paced alien adventure.

Nice change of pace

Fun well delivered and written. Very little gratuitous violence, gore or sex. A lot of my listening has had some or lots of cringeworthy descriptions of the above mentioned that feel more like filler or shockers than storytelling. This book had none noticable to me .I seldom make it through a book with out taking a break or yelling at the author or characters and I did with this one definitely looking forward to more from this story.

Enjoyed this and looking forward to more.

Once again McFarland really nails a unique story. Loved the characters and how he keeps it from being predictable. Bravo

Outstanding story line What a great ride

Starts off with a bang and just keeps going. Kept me engaged all the way through. Just bought Old dogs and old tricks, cannot wait to jump back into the story.

They did it again!

Jamie McFarlane and Mikael Naramore did it again! These two as author and narrator are synonymous with owning my attention. Privateer tales was an instant classic for me, and now we have geriatric codgers going on a space adventure! This is amazing! Thank you for this novel. I can not wait for the rest of the series

Good start, mediocre end

The concept for this book was a great idea, and I found the characters at the beginning to be very engaging. However, as the story progressed, there were small details that showed the holes in the story. The main character is a Vietnam veteran who is a Marine. Some of the dialogue and terminology used was inconsistent with what the character would have used if he had really served. I don't fault the author as this is book is open to a broader audience of readers. I just felt it broke my suspension of belief with this character’s journey.

I also found the end of this book to be a little rushed and moving from one thing to another in quick succession as if the author just wanted us to move to the next book in the series.

A tad misogynistic for me

Let's see if this review makes it through. I don't want to spend time writing a detailed review again. The title of this review explains it. This is for both books one and two. That's all.

great characters in a great story.

excellent character development with a truly gripping plot. had a hard time putting this one down and emediately ordered ed the next 2 books in this series. My only complaint is the length of this listen. wish it had a couple more hours to it. overall I am a fan and will recommend it.
