About this listen

2nd Chance: Booktrack Edition adds an immersive musical soundtrack to your audiobook listening experience!*

Booktrack editions are essentially a new genre of digital storytelling entertainment. Music and ambient audio are added to complement and enhance the audiobook experience. It is a synchronized movie-style soundtrack that complements the narration of existing audiobooks; the tempo and rhythm of the score harmonize with action, dialogue and the characters' emotional arcs.

2nd Chance reconvenes the Women's Murder Club, four friends (a detective, a reporter, an assistant district attorney, and a medical examiner) who used their networking skills, feminine intuition, and professional wiles to solve a baffling series of murders in 1st to Die.

This time, the murders of two African Americans, a little girl and an old woman, bear all the signs of a serial killer for Lindsay Boxer, newly promoted to lieutenant of San Francisco's homicide squad. But there's an odd detail she finds even more disturbing: Both victims were related to city cops. A symbol glimpsed at both murder scenes leads to a racist hate group, but the taunting killer strikes again and again, leaving deliberate clues and eluding the police ever more cleverly. In the meantime, each of the women has a personal stake at risk - and the killer knows who they are.

*Booktrack is an immersive format that pairs traditional audiobook narration to complementary music. The tempo and rhythm of the score are in perfect harmony with the action and characters throughout the audiobook. Gently playing in the background, the music never overpowers or distracts from the narration, so listeners can enjoy every minute. When you purchase this Booktrack edition, you receive the exact narration as the traditional audiobook available, with the addition of music throughout.

Aside from the female narrator, it’s great!

I loved the story and the background music. It was hard to get into the story because I didn’t enjoy the female narrator. Her reading style isn’t ideal and harsh to listen to at times. I only purchased it because I couldn’t find my hardcover copy of the book and want to re-read the series before reading the latest books. It’s worth it for the story overall. Jeremy Piven helped immensely to survive her voice.

series that Im desperately trying to get through

I love a good murder mystery..This one kept me guessing, but the hardest part was listening to the reader.

Everyone should read like Jeremy Piven. He is fantastic!!! He had emotion, knew when to whisper and his phrasing had the perfect ebb and flow of reading. most excellent!!!!

I was sorely disappointed in Melissa Leo. She's a good actress, but shouldn't read. there was no emotion in her voice. her characters were dull, and lifeless and just inappropriate. I struggled to listen to her, and she unfortunately read most of the book. again, like the previous book, I kept going to make it through.

I also hated the music. it was awful!! I'm glad we are almost 20 years out and hopefully they don't do that anymore.

Twisty Ending

Enjoyable story. Little twist of an ending but it was expected. Nice character development from 1st to Die.

What a ride!

I've just recently finished 1st to die, and immediately, I wanted to read another of James Patterson's books. I did not regret getting this one. The story, the narration, the soundtrack, all of it together really brought me out of a boring day in the house and into the book. I want to follow Lindsey more and get on to the next book in the Women's Murder Club.
