About this listen

September 11, 2001. 8:46 am, EST. Oz watches as a plane flies and explodes in the North Tower of the World Trade Center. At 9:03 am EST, Oz and his team watch as a second plane flies and explodes in the South Tower of the World Trade Center. The United States is forever changed.

Within months after living through the frightening aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Oz and his wife Nicki vowed to never be caught off guard by life’s disastrous events.

Together, they developed a deep understanding of gardening, food preservation, water purification and storage methods, security procedures, firearms training, and the importance of community. The more they learned, the less dependent they became on the grid, box stores, utility companies, grocery stores, and gas stations.

458 Miles and 24 Days tells the story of Oz and his family in the days immediately following a man-made electromagnetic pulse terrorist attack that cripples the United States’s power grid.

Oz is separated from his family and must begin the journey of traveling 458 miles to reach them. Along the way, he learns that his responsibilities lie well beyond his own and that others unknowingly become dependent upon him. Meanwhile, Nicki must learn to survive and protect the family in a crumbling world without him.

This new world is one of darkness, survival, perseverance, and adaptability, but also one that proves the importance of family. They had prepared, but would their skills and training be enough to unite them and see them through this disaster?

Informative and Scary

I learned so much from this book! But it also brings you to a stark realization of what life would be like after a catastrophic EMP and it is definitely not good. Being prepared for such an event is a rather monumental task. But this book certainly gives you the building blocks of what you can do if you desire to.

Good combination

Each character is very much an individual, there is no copy and paste from person to person. it strikes a good balance between informing the reader, developing characters, and suspense. It moves fairly quickly, and the author doesn't waste your time with "extras" that'll never come up again. I'll definitely be listening to it again.

Write another one!

Every bit as good as Borrowed World. I love the characters. Love the gear details. Can not wait until the move to the bugout.

Fantastically Realistic!

I've been a 'prepper' since pre-Y2K and I thought I was in pretty good shape, but after listening to the E.M.P. Chronicles I can see I still have a long way to go! The author clearly has a strong understanding of just about every aspect of survival during a 'grid-down' crisis. He's thought of everything and includes a great survival guide wrapped up in a gripping SHTF story! Whether you're into prepping or you just want a thrilling story to read I highly recommend this book!

Not very good. Mildly entertaining. Want my credit back.

The story was flat, especially lacking depth of characters. The prepping “lessons” were okay but nothing that anyone who’s prepped for a while wouldn’t already know.
I listen to a lot of apocalyptic fiction and unfortunately, this just doesn’t make the mark.
I also found the depiction of the “terrorist”rather racist.
I gave 2 stars instead of 1 because I was at least able to finish the book. 1 star are books I have to return without being able to force my way through.
