Writing fast is the most important skill you can develop as a writer. While it seems hard to hit high word counts, the secrets are easier than you think. In this writer's guide, prolific author M. L. Ronn pulls back the curtain on the process that he uses to write six to eight novels a year. He has kept this pace while juggling responsibilities as a husband, father, manager at a Fortune 100 company, and a law school student. The result is a catalog of over 40 books and counting.

What makes a romance novel a romance? Writing a well-structured romance isn't the same as writing any other genre - something the popular novel and screenwriting guides don't address. The romance arc is made up of its own story beats. Told in conversational (and often irreverent) prose, Romancing the Beat is like sitting down to coffee with romance editor and author Gwen Hayes while she explains story structure - the way she does with her clients, some of whom are regular inhabitants of the best-seller lists.

There are only, in my humble opinion, two kinds of readers: readers who love your books and readers who don’t know they love your books yet. But how do you reach those readers in the second category, no matter what kind of writer you are? The answer to that question is...universal fantasy. Universal fantasy is why my sales tripled when I “accidentally” wrote three books that landed in the Amazon Top 100. Universal fantasy is why some authors get gobs of gushing reviews and some authors who write “way better” get crickets.

Story
Finally, in the first productivity book by a woman in a decade, Erin Falconer will show you how to do less - a lot less. In fact, How to Get Sh*t Done will teach you how to zero in on the three areas of your life where you want to excel, and then it will show you how to offload, outsource, or just stop giving a damn about the rest. In How to Get Sh*t Done she shows how even the most perfectionistic among us can tap in to our inner free spirit and learn to feel like badasses rather than drudges.

There are three kinds of feelings when reading a story: boredom, interest, and wow! To become a successful writer, you must create the wow feeling on as many pages as possible, and this requires writing that engages the reader emotionally. Language defines us as a species, placing humans head and shoulders above even the most proficient animal communicators. It's every novelist's greatest fear: pouring their blood, sweat, and tears into writing hundreds of pages only to realize that their story has no sense of urgency, no internal logic, and so is a page-one rewrite. The prevailing wisdom in the writing community is that there are just two ways around this problem: pantsing (winging it) and plotting (focusing on the external plot).

“Long live the King” hailed Entertainment Weekly upon publication of Stephen King’s On Writing. Part memoir, part master class by one of the bestselling authors of all time, this superb volume is a revealing and practical view of the writer’s craft, comprising the basic tools of the trade every writer must have. King’s advice is grounded in his vivid memories from childhood through his emergence as a writer, from his struggling early career to his widely reported, near-fatal accident in 1999—and how the inextricable link between writing and living spurred his recovery.

My Word Count Benefited Instantly
I kept telling myself that good writing took time and shouldn't be rushed, but really all I was doing was staring at an unfinished page overthinking what to write next.
After putting Chris's methods to use, my word count a day went from 750 - 1000 to over 2000 words, and I spent less time writing! All I did was find a quiet place, press a timer, and suddenly my inner editor was no where to be heard. Sure, the writing that resulted was less than grammatically correct, but it takes all but minutes to go back and edit punctuation and misspelling.
When I compared the writing I did during sprints to when I was taking my sweet time, it was just as good - if not better. The key difference was I had no time to judge myself.
This worked for me - and I can't wait to see how my word count improves in the months to come with this method.
You could probably save a few bucks by googling what word sprints are but I recommend hearing Chris's take on it. His story is interesting, and all too relatable to the aspiring unpublished writer.

to-the-point writing productivity advice
Chris Fox did an excellent job collecting a variety of writing productivity advice and putting it into a streamline system anyone can follow. He doesn't spend time talking about himself or generalities but presents you with actionable items you can follow. He reiterates some of the points a lot which could get redundant but I found that they were the right things to re-emphasize. A definite must-read for beginner or middle stage writers looking to increase their efficiency.

Great motivation book with great tips on writing
Love this short and to the point book on learning ways to start writing. I got the kindle version along with the audible companion. This book is well written, and to the point. I recommend this to anyone with writers block or a fear of writing.

A Gem for Authors New and Old
I loved the ideas and advice in this book. The book unfortunately did include some less-than-savory language but it was minimal. Thanks Chris, awesome book that I will be re-reading and practicing until I likewise achieve Olympian heights.
