I kept telling myself that good writing took time and shouldn't be rushed, but really all I was doing was staring at an unfinished page overthinking what to write next.

After putting Chris's methods to use, my word count a day went from 750 - 1000 to over 2000 words, and I spent less time writing! All I did was find a quiet place, press a timer, and suddenly my inner editor was no where to be heard. Sure, the writing that resulted was less than grammatically correct, but it takes all but minutes to go back and edit punctuation and misspelling.

When I compared the writing I did during sprints to when I was taking my sweet time, it was just as good - if not better. The key difference was I had no time to judge myself.

This worked for me - and I can't wait to see how my word count improves in the months to come with this method.

You could probably save a few bucks by googling what word sprints are but I recommend hearing Chris's take on it. His story is interesting, and all too relatable to the aspiring unpublished writer.

I write pretty fast but I have a feeling this will help me get much faster. If you're a writer you should check it out too.

What storytellers who want to write faster need.

Love this short and to the point book on learning ways to start writing. I got the kindle version along with the audible companion. This book is well written, and to the point. I recommend this to anyone with writers block or a fear of writing.

Great motivation book with great tips on writing

I loved the ideas and advice in this book. The book unfortunately did include some less-than-savory language but it was minimal. Thanks Chris, awesome book that I will be re-reading and practicing until I likewise achieve Olympian heights.

A Gem for Authors New and Old

Very thought provoking. The majority of these tips and suggestions for increasing writing speed sound like they could be helpful to a lot of people, depending on your writing style. Some apply to both plotters and pantsers but Fox seems to prefer hardcore plotting himself and some of the speed with which he's encouraging you to write will only possible if you know what you're writing EXTREMELY WELL ahead of time, which just won't work for all of us.

The only tip I personally would outright reject was using voice dictation to increase speed. That seems to work well for some people, but for those of us who find communication 1000x easier in writing than speaking, it would be more a hindrance than a help. I would die a thousand deaths if anyone overheard me dictating a horribly messy rough draft, and that discomfort would freeze me up, not make me faster, so I'll never be one to apply that tip.

Otherwise, there were some excellent tips and encouragement in here, some of which I do already, and I'd say it would be worth a read for most writers. If you can apply all of this advice and it really helps you, that's great. But if you're just not a hardcore plotter (I can plot a bit when needed, but there I times I have to push forward and pants for a while or I'd stay stuck for a long time. Interestingly enough, staying stuck for long periods of time was his big critique about pantsing, which just shows how differently each individual's brain can work., LOL.) and some of his suggestions don't work for you, that's okay too! Writing with the intent of publishing is a long game and while speed can be helpful, IMO, other writer qualities like endurance and consistency are just as important. Do what works for you!

*Note for young writers: Fox uses mild profanity throughout, so just a heads up for that

Probably more applicable for some than others

This book has some good information, and is realistic in what expectations it sets. You have to work hard to get better and achieve your goals, but the exercises in this book will help you get there if you are disciplined.

This book helped me shift my mindset and find some straightforward habits to write more and meet my deadline. Chris Fox has a no nonsense and kind writing style that I appreciate, too. I’m now moving on to several other book projects, and because of the habits I’m building from reading this book, I’m confident that I can increase my volume as I put the strategies in practice. I’ve read tons of books on writing, but this little gem where’s the key for me during a season where I had a short window of time to finish my work. That book, because of the timing, quickly became a best seller in more than one category.

Helped me write a bestseller!
