About this listen

The Instant New York Times Best Seller

Who has the right to change the world forever? How will we live online? How do we find comfort in an increasingly isolated world?

The Carls disappeared the same way they appeared, in an instant. While the robots were on Earth, they caused confusion and destruction with only their presence. Part of their maelstrom was the sudden viral fame and untimely death of April May: a young woman who stumbled into the Carls' path, giving them their name, becoming their advocate, and putting herself in the middle of an avalanche of conspiracy theories.

Months later, April’s friends are trying to find their footing in a post-Carl world. Andy has picked up April’s mantle of fame, speaking at conferences and online; Maya, ravaged by grief, begins to follow a string of mysteries that she is convinced will lead her to April; and Miranda is contemplating defying her friends’ advice and pursuing a new scientific operation...one that might have repercussions beyond anyone’s comprehension. Just as it is starting to seem like the gang may never learn the real story behind the events that changed their lives forever, a series of clues arrive - mysterious books that seem to predict the future and control the actions of their readers - all of which seems to suggest that April could be very much alive.

In the midst of the search for the truth and the search for April is a growing force, something that wants to capture our consciousness and even control our reality.

A Beautifully Foolish Endeavor is the bold and brilliant follow-up to An Absolutely Remarkable Thing. It is a fast-paced adventure that is also a biting social commentary, asking hard, urgent questions about the way we live, our freedoms, our future, and how we handle the unknown.

A Beautiful Conclusion

Loved the voice acting in this book. There are a lot of points of view and I'm so happy there are multiple voice actors instead of one person doing many voices. This is also the perfect conclusion to the first book. You must read the first one before this, though.

get this book; it is good.

i consume a lot of sci-fi and most of it is like junk food; satisfying until you run out of it. this book left me pondering it's meaning long after i finished it like a home cooked meal at my grandma's house. this book was satisfying, deep, thought-provoking and astonishing.

also, the little podcast style interview at the end was a nice touch. if bezos is listening to this (i get the irony), maybe more audio-books could end this way.

Amazing & beautiful!

This story is totally addicting. I love the way it's written (just like the first book- this is the 2nd in the series). I've listened almost non-stop since purchasing yesterday. Just a great story. I loved the narrators as well! Beautiful job! I really hope you enjoy it as much as I did! (This is literally the first review I've written- I feel that moved to write a review. Hope this helps!)

Beautiful and Thought Provoking

I loved this book. Who knew a story about aliens could help us with reflection on what it means to be human.

Engaging and thought provoking

I liked this sequel much better than the original, I think largely because we got to hear the story told from other perspectives than just the slightly obnoxious April May. It was believable, suspenseful, and enjoyable.

It also articulated well some very timely risks and opportunities in the current state of social tech without sliding into a moral tale, and brought a tempered optimistic perspective to the discussion many of us are already having on these topics.

I'm Sad The Series is Done

It explores a lot of themes I enjoy, the character evolution is honest and believable, and the narration was great! All around great sequel!
