Publisher's summary

Meddling gods. A magical card system. An apocalypse no one could have predicted.

Jake is working at the neighborhood market under his apartment when the world ends. He expected nuclear war, a computer virus, or even climate change burning everyone to a crisp to bring about the downfall of civilization. But cruel and arbitrary gods from another world? Who would have guessed that?

When these cruel gods shuffled Earth like a deck of cards, nothing was in the same place anymore. Monsters, dungeons, and magical items appear scattered across the globe. And suddenly, everyone has access to a new, strange magical card system that gives them magical powers.

Jake, wasting his day slacking off in the cooler, as he usually did, found himself alone in a completely new and very dangerous world. Can he learn to survive? Can he collect enough cards and create a good enough deck to fight back against the monsters that have overtaken his former home? And why are these strange people that look a lot like elves knocking on the door of the market he is hiding in and asking to buy some of his goods?

The gods may have stacked the deck against him, but Jake just might have a few cards up his sleeve that will help him survive.

Jake... from State Farm

Amazing book. It hit all the marks I like to see in a good LitRPG or Gamelit title. Relatable MC. Cool magic system. Some good humor. No harems. Awesome first title by this author.

Travis Baldree also narrates this like a rockstar. I loved hearing one of the characters being read in Yerein's voice.

My only complaint about this book is that the MC's name is Jake, his name is said quite often and everytime it was said, I mentally continued "from State Farm" in my head.

Social justice fantasy

I liked: the narrator is excellent; the setup of the story is well written and fun; and the book cover is so good it's impossible not to buy the book.

I disliked: the battle system is too imbalanced; the economy makes no sense (just consider how powerful even the poor people would get after a few years); good and evil are mostly black and white; and worst of all, the author brings far too much of their political views into the story.

book was good, not sure where it can go

the story was interesting, and somewhat unique. the charter and magic cards develops fine, then suddenly there is a whole new system that is more powerful. by the end of the book so much has changed that anyvfurther books would not be relevant to this one. great book, but I wouldn't care for a sequel.

Dope.

I enjoyed the entire book and the magic system was pretty great. I look forward to future books. I’m a fan.

Fantastic Start

Great start to a new series from a new author. My only complaint would be that it feels the book jumped through too manly possible sequel type stories in an attempt to get to a major plot point.

SPOILER WARNING

I honestly wish the first book had spent more time on earth, building up the town, and then finishing off with the aggressor City and him being transported to ambrosia. then book 2 could have focused on his time in ambrosia, training with the knights, and induction into the special squad, and finishing with his being transported to the dead world for a cliffhanger ending. Here starts book 3, and everything from the end of the book and continuing on with the encounter with the big bads.

Just my opinion, but as I said, it feels like we got 2.5 stories crammed into one book.

Regardless, I'm looking forward to the next entry.

Its a good book.

I dont know why some have complained about the MC not being in the store the whole time. It is a book. He is in a unique situation. He has to evolve. And by doing so, he has to leave the store, move with the times and get into trouble lol.

So... I'll address it. The MC is connected by the hip, to the store for the "first" book. The "seocnd" book, he's trying to get back to it. But like all good books, he keeps getting into trouble, helping people, leveling up his skills and making powerful enemies lol.

If I had to put things together to describe this book, it would be The Wandering Inn meets the Wild West meets time travel meets dugeon diving meets any leveling up system that predominately uses cards.... Like D&D or something.

Its a good read. It starts different. Theres some twist and turns. Lots of talking lol and self doubt and pity but when he gets it together, he gets things done.

If nothing else, listen to it while your cleaning or doing work, you'll find, you'll stop and start alot lol. Thats a good book to me.

Best one I've listened to yet.

You'll never guess where this book is going, so many good twists. It was a delight to listen to and I cannot wait for the next one, probably the best LIT RPG I've head the pleasure to experience yet.
