About this listen

Never trust a blackmailer.

Vermont’s promising young governor, Andrew Kane, is at another public meet-and-greet when a stranger from the crowd slips him a cell phone and whispers, “Keep this with you...keep it secret...you’re going to need it after the arrest.”

Hours later, Andrew’s brother, Tyler, is taken into custody - framed for the brutal murder of a young woman - and Andrew discovers there is only one way to free him: answer the mysterious phone and agree to a blackmailer’s demands. All the governor has to do to make it all go away is compromise everything he stands for and grant a full pardon to a convicted felon. With no better option, he complies. Which is his first mistake...because the stranger isn’t through with him. He has another little condition. Then another. And another. And Andrew has no choice but to play along until he can find a way out of this personal and political nightmare. But he isn’t prepared for what he will face, or how far he will have to go to save his brother and keep his family together.

Entertaining with one fatal flaw

The story and author were engaging, but I couldn’t get past the fact (without giving things away) they didn’t report things from the very beginning, but somehow had no issues doing so in the end? Could have saved a lot of headache, but wouldn’t have made a very good story ;).

Great Story!

I really like this book. It is intense for sure! It is about the governor of Vermont and how he tries to save his mentality challenged brother who has been framed for murder. Great characters and a fantastic plot. Five Stars across the board on this one!

Good

I enjoyed this story. A good portrait of a family and interesting crime and moral dilemma. But it wasn’t a stellar story or a life changing event.

I'd like to give this a 4.5

Most of the story was Excellent. Somewhere in the middle I considered raising the speed to 1.5 but I'm glad I didn't.
I think there were too many unneeded details that slowed the pace.
Overall Very Good.

Good story overall

I enjoyed this book. The story was good, it had good and mostly believable characters. No one was perfect. Pace moved well. Some aspects were a little less believable, but maybe they are plausible. It did not detract from the story.

Narration was good in general, but the narrator used the same voice for multiple characters, so you have to pay attention to figure out who is talking.

Pretty good, right up until the end

The mystery & intrigue kept my attention. The performance was good. The story was also good, right up until the end, when the "good guys" take absolutely no responsibility for what they've done. The author really performs some impressive mental gymnastics to give reasons why the person responsible should not pay.

Tyler Steals Your Heart, Cat n Mouse Evil

Great $3.95 daily deal. This narrator is terrific and l will seek out his other reads. He has the sound of McLeod Andrews and like the great narrator Jonathan Davis, speaks fluent Spanish. The author’s next book should be read by mr Pabon as he had wonderful characters in this book to interpret for the author. This author is not for me. Not because he isn’t a good story teller, but because he tells a story of losing control. I didn’t realize l had owned this author’s Shady Cross novel which l could not get into after a few starts. This book will keep you glued to it. This is not about who but about why??? The ending will make you think wow!
Were my comments of help?
