About this listen

'It seemed simple at first – folding one lie over the next. She had become expert at feathering over the cracks to ensure her life appeared the same. But inside, it didn't feel fixed.' It happened the day of the Moon Festival. It could have been left behind, they all could have moved on with their lives. But secrets have a habit of rising to the surface, especially in small towns. Two couples, four ironclad friendships, the perfect coastal holiday town. With salt-stung houses perched like lifeguards overlooking the shore, Lago Point is the scene of postcards, not crime scenes. Wife and mother Abbi, town cop Blake, schoolteacher Hannah and local doctor Will are caught in their own tangled webs of deceit. When the truth washes in to their beach side community, so do the judgements: victim, or vigilante, who will forgive, who will betray? Not all relationships survive. Nor do all residents.©2019 Kylie Kaden (P)2019 Bolinda Publishing Crime Fiction Fiction Mystery Vigilante justice

You'd think with a 12 hour book I'd have been able to sort out who is who in the storyline because that SHOULD be plenty of time to get settled and engrossed into the story. While I FINALLY did figure out the 4 main characters & the villain about 3/4 of the way in, I still found myself at the very end wondering who one character was. I may ask for a refund on this one. It was difficult to stick with because I had trouble getting who was who. Lots of jumping around

Hard to follow!!

The reason I say it “ended up” being a great book, is because I thought that the first quarter to a third of the book was quite hard to follow. I actually almost put the book down, but glad I didn’t. I listened to it on Audible, so that makes it easier to follow, I my opinion. So it seemed to be a little scattered in the beginning. But there is a great awareness that is brought to life soon thereafter. I would recommend reading this book!

Ended up being a great book!

Incredibly lyrical and evocative writing. Fully realized characters and a mystery that keeps you guessing. What more could anyone ask for. The narrator was splendid…beautiful voice brings each person to life.
I hope the author has written or will write many more books.

An emotional and suspenseful story

**No Spoilers** This was a frustrating book to listen to at times. I followed the advice of other reviewers and paid close attention at the beginning, so thankfully I never felt lost or confused. The general plotline and overall message are fantastic, but it still felt like a bit of a slog sometimes. The "big secret" is alluded to so often and so cryptically that it became frustrating after a while - I was internally screaming, "Get on with it!" Additionally, I can appreciate a well-written unlikeable character, but all four of the main players in this novel were a bit annoying - whiny at times or self-righteous in a way that felt a little unbelievable. That being said, there are some good twists and turns that I appreciated. Each reveal felt earned in that it made sense in the context of earlier revelations without being overly telegraphed. It's just a shame that it takes so long to get to some of them.

A mixed bag

I felt this was a good story, a couple of small twists that I didn't anticipate. Overall, I would recommend it if you like the murder / mystery genre.

A good story.

Very interesting story, and well- written. However, the beginning is good and the end is very good. There was just way too much unnecessary “stuff” in the middle. Narration was very good.

Could have been at a third shorter

I don’t know if I was distracted, fell asleep, or spaced out on all of the important parts. I liked the book at first. After about an hour of listening I became confused and remained that way for the remainder of the story. I will return this book. I feel like it was fine for some background noise but that’s it.

I had a hard time following this book.

The story started off slow with lots of details to keep track of but before midway I was hooked. Very well written and read! A surprise ending and by the end I felt I personally knew each character.

Have been a member since 2008 and I can count on one hand a novel my wife and I have enjoyed so thoroughly as to compel us to write a review. The story is indeed somewhat confusing at first but the characters psychological development and interaction is first rate. It is evident the author has a Masters degree in psychology. She is also truly a wordsmith. I like not a good story, and a good mystery but a good writer and she checks all the boxes. It truly did not seem like a 12 hour + story. I did not want it to end. Looking forward to more of this authors works. Lastly, we thoroughly enjoyed the narrator. We will also look for new titles that she narrates.

A VERY well developed mystery
