About this listen

Book 13 in the internationally best-selling Chronicles of St Mary's series.

For fans of Richard Osman's Thursday Murder Club series, Jasper Fforde and Doctor Who.

Finally—finally!—Max has that nice office job she's always wanted. The one with no heavy lifting and no one tries to kill her. Well, one out of two's not bad....

Punching well above their weight, Max and Markham set out to bring down a sinister organisation founded in the future—with a suspicious focus on the past.

Max's focus is staying alive long enough to reunite with Leon and Matthew, alternately helped and hindered by St Mary's—who aren't always the blessing they like to think they are.

But non-stop leaping around the timeline—from witnessing Magna Carta to disturbing a certain young man with a penchant for gunpowder—is beginning to take its toll. Is Max going mad? Or are the ghosts of the past finally catching up with her?

Another great visit with the St. Mary's crew!

Another great installment of the Chronicles of St Mary's brought so eloquently to life by Zara Ramm's wonderful performance!

I have read all of Jodi Taylor's St Mary's series (and the related Time Police series) and the characters are so well written that they all feel like good friends. I enjoy these stories so much, and A Catalogue of Catastrophe is another winner. It made me laugh, kept me on the edge of my seat with it's twists and turns, and warmed my heart. Great story, and very interesting historical notes/references.

I hate to say it yet again....but when will the next installment be?? :-)

Brava, I want more and more of the Chronicles of St. Mary’s crew!

As always Jody Taylor’s writing and Zara Rams narrating are stupendous! I love all of the twisted and fun tales and hysterical bits are amazing! Keep it coming! How about some Caledonian battles? Culloden? Some of Bonnie Prince Charlie? Thank you Jodi Taylor for your creative brilliance and Zaram for your amazing narration!

Max is getting a little whiny

I did appreciate the length of this book, and that some good things happened, less death doom and disaster. Appreciated. But Max was really an ungrateful wench on several occasions.

Always fun, but...

I love Jodi's work, especially this series and Markham is one of my favorite characters. I must admit that I awaited this pre-order with mixed emotions. since leaving St Mary's, I've found Max's adventure less engaging and a shade too dark. Sadly, I found this book to be the sane; it drags a bit and is definitely more depressing than the early series books. There are definite moments of comic brilliance and Max's is generally her beloved sarcastic self - though a bit too mean at times. Markham is less his funny, accident prone self. There's also periods of focusing on duller story elements that feel like filler.

While I am still a St Mary's devotee, and would assuredly buy any future books, I do think this is one of the weakest.

The Best

A Catalogue of Catastrophe, book #13 in The Chronicles of St Mary's by Jodi Taylor picks up right where Another Time, Another Place left off, with Max and Markham on the lamb, but trying to stop the bad guys and fix history.

If you are reading this review and are not familiar with Jodi Taylor or her writing, you are missing something very special. If you are already a fan of the series, and her writing, you understand. Know that Ms. Taylor has not slipped a bit. Book 13 is another mad capped romp through time, with all the action, wit and sarcasm one has come to expect from a Jodi Taylor book. Do not read in public if you are embarrassed about laughing out loud. My only warning is that after you start, do not expect to do anything for a while because you will not want to put this book down.

I listened to the audio version and Zara Ramm was outstanding. In fact, if you have never listened to an audible book, I would highly recommend picking up a Jodi Taylor book read by Zara Ramm. All I will say is that it ended way too soon, and I will be waiting in anticipation to find out where the story goes next.

Another wonderful romp from Ms.Taylor.

Just when you think these St.Mary's storiescan't be getting better.....Surprise, they continue to do just that. Continued imaginative stories, great characters, and wonderful narration.

Best so far

I’ve been enjoying this entire series, all the novels and the “short stories”, and this has been my favorite so far. From the vivid historical segments, to the cascade of catastrophes that form the plot, to the comic destruction of soup and cheese sandwiches, my only regret is that since I’ve caught up to the most recent book in the collection, I now have wait impatiently for the next to appear. Or the next Time Police installment. Or even the next short story. Please keep them coming.
