About this listen

Even small towns have secrets....

Hadley James is finally living the life she’s always wanted: making jam and selling it at the local farmers market. When a cat-sitting job turns into a murder investigation, life no longer seems so perfect.

Her twin brother, a deputy sheriff, is on the case but they’ve always done everything together and she can’t help but get involved. Following a trail of crafty clues, the James twins learn that their sleepy town might be harboring more darkness than they could’ve imagined.

Interesting Story

I love a good cozy mystery and this one did not disappoint. I did, however, have some unanswered questions. I guess if this will be a series I will get the opportunity to have those questions answered. I love the small town feel of the book. I enjoyed the narrator she made the book pleasant to listen to. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Soooo good!

I loved this story and the narrator! The writing was so good! One of my favorite things is that the main character didn’t go all lone wolf like a lot of heroines in mystery’s, she actually worked with people! And I like that she wasn’t working against the police. Her relationship with her BFF and brother was awesome! And loved Ansil 💗

Surprisingly good

I don't typically go for cozy mysteries, but every now and then I give a new series a try. I'm happy I stumbled across this one, and will happily listen along to more books in this series.

A Great Cozy Mystery!!!

This cozy mystery is such a joy to listen to. Eryn Scott writes a smart, suspenseful and funny mystery which has an ending you will not see coming! I loved following the main characters as they figured out clues to catch the murderer. The story was well written and the characters believable. I can't wait to listen to the next book! The narration was awesome. Jennifer Jill Araya gave each character their own voice and emotions. She really helped the story come alive and pull the listener in until the end. I will be looking for her as a narrator in future books. Loved the combination and will be recommending this book to my cozy mystery friends.

Cute, light clean cozy

Likeable characters, enjoyable cozy. Narration is good. Pacing and voices are well done. I liked that the recipes are included at the end in the audio. Seems to be a fun series with expanding characters. I like Hadley helping her brother Paul investigate. I like Luke's character and the friends introduced so far. I will continue to the next book. I received a free copy of the audio book in exchange for an honest review.

A Solid Start to New Series

I found this story a great start for the new series. This is my first title by Eryn Scott. We get introduced to the main characters, Deputy Sheriff Paul James and his twin sister Hadley. There are a few more characters that will become part of the normal crew, but I don't want to spoil any of the mystery by naming them.

The whodunit starts off pretty quickly, but I honestly found the fact that Hadley doing most of the investigative work (rather than her brother) a little off-putting. I know the synopsis says it's easier for her, but Hadley runs hot and cold with her jumping to conclusions that I found the story a little more on the silly side (think I Love Lucy) than Cozy Mystery. That said, once I accepted this story to be more chuckle than sensible story, I enjoyed the lightness and the quirky characters.

Narrator Jennifer Jill Araya continues to deliver a light and innocent tone that works nicely with this genre. She kept the story moving and made the listening enjoyable.

Decent start to a new series

A Crafty Crime is the first book the Stoneybook Mystery series. Solidly paced and well crafted (no pun intended) the book delivers an enjoyable if somewhat forgettable tale. My issue with this one is that none of the characters truly stood out to me, and I don't feel like I ever connected with them or was given a reason to care about them. Liked it enough that I may well listen to the next in the series, but I'm in no rush to jump right into the next one yet.

The Best Cozy Mystery I Have Read to Date

I have found an absolute love affair with cozy mysteries. I think A Crafty Crime might be a new favourite though.

First of all, I love the character relationships. The first one being the relationship between Hadley and her twin brother Paul. They just have that special twin bond, and Paul is the cop in town, adding to the adventure. Secondly, I am curious to see where the relationship will go between Hadley and Luke. A possible love interest?

I love the quaintness of Stoneybrook and the cast of characters that live in the town. Not to mention all the knitting and cat love in this book. The last line of the book is perfection. I thought I had the killer pinned down, but Scott does a great job of making the reader/listener question if they have it right, until the very end.

The recipes at the end of the book sound amazing and I hope to try both of them.

I have already started the second book in the series and hope to continue on with it.

This is the second book I have listened to by Jennifer Jill Araya. I love her narrations, her voices are clear, and really bring the characters to life. I was actually interested in this book initially because she did the narration. That is how much I enjoy her work.

A fun, cozy story...

This is a really cute, fun, cozy story... the first in what I hope turns into a series! I absolutely loved it's sense of place... (Now that I'm thinking about the last couple of cozy mysteries that I've read, I realize that in each of them the protagonists are all pretty firmly grounded, maybe that's a rule for one of these stories...) but, I mention the place in this book because like Hadley, I've grown up in the Pacific Northwest. Also in the summer time, I've been known to haunt our own farmers markets, and the Cascades aren't that far away, so this story felt a little bit like home...
And boy oh boy, does Hadley and her twin brother (the local cop) have their work cut out for them when a woman is found murdered! There's plenty of murder suspects, because it seems the victim had seemingly gone out of her way to harass everyone in town.
Jennifer Jill Araya does a great job narrating this tale... and if your crafty you may feel the urge to knit, or make jam while you're listening to this one!

Considering the genre, I'm giving this one...
5 Cozy ☆'s ☺
