About this listen

When doing the right thing goes horribly wrong...

Caroline Blakely is certain of two things: She was happy with her life as a first grade school teacher, and she can never, ever return to it.

After discovering a shocking truth about her father, the wealthy businessman at the helm of Blakely Oil, she’s on the run—a difficult feat given her father’s endless resources and connections.

With the help of friends, Carly is able to secure a new identity, but her attempts to keep a low profile are blown to bits when she gets stuck in Drum, Tennessee. When she investigates a cry in the parking lot outside her motel room, she finds herself the lone witness to a murder.

Stranded in the small Appalachian Mountain town, she soon realizes that Drum is as riddled with secrets as her own past. A huge chunk of the intrigue centers around the Drummond family, ancestors of the town’s founders, and their oldest son, Wyatt—an ex-con.

She knows she’d do best to stay away from the Drummonds, especially Wyatt, and from the mystery she’s stumbled upon, but Carly’s sense of right and wrong demands that she help, even if it means risking her own secrets...and her life.

Fresh and interesting!

I really like this book and the series. It's several story lines mix together and presented with warmth and humor while still keeping several mysteries and secrets plotting right along. There are twists and turns that work well and make it interesting. The characters are well developed and very likable. Dialog between characters is well done. It's like a mix of Stephanie Plum, Katniss, Eve Dallas, and Madeline all blended together and it works to make a cast of great characters that you want to get to know. I've enjoyed the first book in the series and it gets better. I love the narrator, Shannon McManus, she makes the characters come to life. It's light and fun and you don't want to stop listening!

Don’t know how I stumbled onto this book but was hooked by the end of the first chapter. It’s a Great intro to the series, looking forward to the rest of the books.

Eh

The main character is idiotic and annoying as are most of the characters but slightly less than the main character.

Good book just needs less swear words in it

I like clean books like romance, historical romances friction. I like Debby M combed books a lot.

Such promise.

Sorry to say this book, book 1 I regret bc I know now it just gets worse from here. I optimistically kept reading the series & I want my time&money back. Forget about being excited to see where the Carly Wyatt relationship goes. It’s nonexistent besides some scenes that honestly make Carly unlikable. Author let me down. Glad I didn’t buy any others of hers outside this series is all I can say. Boring simple basic just gets worse with each book.

Awesome listen!

This is the first book I’ve read from Denise Grover Swank. At the start of the book I thought perhaps I was missing too much context as I hadn’t listening to/read the Rose Garden Mysteries where the Carly character originated. But, I continued and caught up quickly. It’s was fantastic! I’m off to listen to the second Carly Moore book! Shannon McManus did a great job as well.

WOW!!!! GREAT SERIES!!!!

This book was offered as a Daily Special and I purchased it. I'm one to listen to any series in order of release. After listening to this story, I was SO DELIGHTED that Audible introduced the first book in the series as the Daily Special. I'm not sure how long it would have taken me to run across this author. She is SO SO TALENTED. It was a first for me by this author but it won't be the last. After I finish this series, I'll be searching for other books by Denise Grover Swank. The main character in this series, Carly Moore, is quite intriguing. The length of the story is perfect. Ms. Swank keeps the story moving at all times and I didn't find any part of the story dragging like others I've listened to. The narrator, Shannon McManus, was the absolute perfect choice. Such a great series!!! When you click on the series, it appears that Book 3 is not available BUT if you search for it, you will find it so don't miss it.

Real page turner so to speak

I guessed all the wrong culprits. Great story line and greater ending. Lost lots of sleep because I could not turn it off!
