About this listen

On the shores of Lake Michigan, influencer Maddy Montgomery has turned the bakery she inherited from her great-aunt Octavia into a destination. There’s just one thing she won’t post: the body in the kitchen …

Thanks to Maddy’s social media savvy, Baby Cakes Bakery is becoming a huge success—so much so that she’s attracted the attention of her former nemesis, the fiancé-stealing Brandy Denton. When Brandy blows into New Bison like an ill wind and disrupts a vlog Maddy’s filming, their argument goes viral. After Brandy’s body is found at Baby Cakes, Maddy instantly goes from viral sensation to murder suspect.
As Maddy is still reeling from the murder, a stranger shows up in the bakery claiming to have been a friend of Octavia. He believes Maddy is in danger. When a second body washes up on the lake shore, it seems clear someone’s out to kill to keep a secret—and it may have to do with her great-aunt.

Maddy rallies her aunt’s friends, the Baker Street Irregulars, Sheriff April Johnson and her veterinarian boyfriend Michael—not to mention her English mastiff Baby—to do some digging and root out whoever’s behind the killings …

Fun cosy!

Sappy heroine but entertaining . I hate the conclusions that Maddie comes up with in her personal life. But the lack of overt violence is good. Would read more.

I’ve enjoyed reading these series. So much that pre-ordered the last book. I appreciate new beginnings in the story and how anyone can change. I enjoyed learning about the characters and Listening to the reader. I like the introduction of the Dad finally. I wouldn’t be mad if there was another book in the works.

Unexpected ending.

I am just as charmed by this third entry in the Baker Street Mystery series as I was by the first and second. The author, Valerie Burns, is a wonderful writer. I care about the main characters, especially Maddy. I am not into social media, but love the hashtag and social media sideline. It is quite enjoyable and doesn't annoy me at all, as others have mentioned. I really enjoyed any bakery/baking aspects! The mystery is intriguing, though I did guess the villain a bit early (for me). Looking for #4 soon! I can't recommend this author enough for reducing "real world" stress.

Wonderful escape from the real world

This is a fantastic cozy murder mystery. The character development of the main character, Maddie, is fantastic. I really like the narrator, she does an excellent job. The ancillary characters are well developed and believable. It was especially good to have the Admiral character developed a bit more in this book. I can’t wait for the next one!

I love this series so much!

I loved how Madison grew on Babe, an as she adapted to New Byson, from Cali. Sometimes her character was clueless on the hints of love and affection to her boyfriend Michael. I would’ve like to see her engage more with him, instead of always brushing him off.

The ending was a surprise.

I really adore this cozy mystery series! Maddy is kind and funny and her friends and family are so lovely and interesting. The narrator does a fantastic job of capturing Maddy’s personality as well, and it almost feels like a friend is telling you a story. I’m just kicking myself for not preparing some blondies and a cortado (or two!) before diving in.

Fun mystery with lovable characters
