About this listen

New York Times and USA Today best-selling authors Heidi McLaughlin and L.P. Dover come together for a sexy new series that delivers romance for every season!

It’s New Year’s Eve, and Natalie has a rare night off from her shifts at the hospital. Determined to have fun with friends, she stops at a local store for provisions. There, amongst the craft beer and pork rinds, she comes face to face with her high school boyfriend, Brennan McLean.

He’s a rockstar. She’s a nurse. To say life led them in different directions would be putting it mildly. Still, time hasn’t lessened the electric chemistry between them. By the end of the night, more was dropping than just the ball. Convincing herself she could have fun without getting attached, Natalie treats herself to a weekend tangled in the sheets with him. But that lie she told herself pops faster than champagne bubbles. With media rumors swirling around Brennan, can the pair find a way to make their unlikely relationship work? Or will Natalie’s resolution not to get her heart broken meet a painful end?

3 stars

Brennan and Natalie were a high school couple. Natalie became a doctor and Brennan became a rock star. They chance meet at the store buying drinks during a snowstorm no less and end up going to the same building but different floor parties and meet in an elevator. So this one ends up being second chance. I think the characters backgrounds didn't work for me.

Narration by: Amelia Mendez was ok. The audio quality seemed very low to me. She did good on the female parts, but I still felt she was only reading the story and a bit monotone for me.

I received this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Sweet, second chance romance

This was a sweet second chance romance. I liked the storyline, but there were a few things that felt off to me like the fact that we don't find out the H is a celebrity until later in the book.

I also thought the narration was decent, but there were times where the narrator felt monotonous.

quick simple sweet second chance

This New Year's will come in with old loves finding that second chance. Natalie and Brennan were in love and choose to go their separate ways. Years later they meet again enroute to two separate holiday parties. The reunion was not with out strife. The life of a rockstar and a simple nurse are worlds apart. Somehow Brennan need to figure out what it is that he wants. And make way to go out and get it.

Amelia Mendez did a good job. The male characters could have used some work. There were some characters that just ran together. They felt like the same. The story was told and enjoyed.

Sweet Story!

Brennan and Natalie were high school sweethearts and each other's firsts. They went their separate ways, she became a nurse, and he became a rockstar. They haven't seen each other in years, but now they stand face to face in a local store where she stopped to pick up some beer for a New Year's Eve party. It turns out they're both going to parties in the same building, but on separate floors. Neither wants to stay at their own party and they meet in the elevator as they are set on finding each other. At midnight, they share a special kiss and Brennan and Natalie can't deny that they are still in love with each other. His Christmas break is coming to an end, and it's not long before he has to return to LA to work on his new album. When they split, they have each other's phone number, and they fully intend to stay in touch. But Brennan gets busy and has too many obligations to fulfill, including taking another woman to a basketball game. As if it were needed to set-up the conflict between Brennan and Natalie, it became a distraction and an out-of-character behavior and I was disappointed in Brennan. He questioned whether or not it was worth being involved with her, if she would doubt him because of what she saw on television. The ending was not a real happy one because it was rushed and there was little or no payoff at the end. It's an ending that is crying for an epilogue.
The narration was well-done by Amelia Mendez. Her well-modulated, dynamic and well-paced delivery brought the characters to life.

Another Fun Romance

I liked this one less than A Date with an Elf. I think maybe because I like Christmas more than New Years? Or maybe I didn't buy the romance as much. I'm just not sure how a famous musician can make it work with a nurse. I don't think they make sense long term. It was still a really fun listen though and I'm excited for the rest of the series.

I loved the narration! It was like gossiping over coffee with my best friend.

A short romance

This is a short second chance romance between two high school sweethearts that each went to follow their dreams and met years later in a chance encounter. I thought it was weird that you know the H is a celebrity but you don't know why/,how until halfway through the book.
