About this listen

From the author of the On the Line and Fire on Ice hockey romance series comes a sultry stand-alone novel featuring a brooding NHL player who's hell on skates - and the no-nonsense woman who forces him to clean up his act.

Miranda

Even though I'm broke, putting myself through college, and working two jobs, I'm trying to make the best of it. Meanwhile, Jake Birch, hockey's hottest bad boy, lives in a luxury hotel in downtown Chicago - and still complains about every little thing in his penthouse. But after I tell him off, instead of getting me fired, Jake requests me as his personal housekeeper. Then he starts flirting with me. Only I'm not flirting back...at least I'm trying not to. Did I mention that he's hockey's hottest bad boy?

Jake

I've met the best woman at the worst possible time. Miranda is the fire to my ice - a sexy, charmingly candid spark who breaks down my walls and reminds me what it's like to feel again. But I'm being forced to date my team owner's daughter to keep my job, so I can't be caught with Miranda. Still, we're getting closer - until Miranda finds out about my "girlfriend". And that's not the only secret I've been keeping. But Miranda's the one I want...even if she doesn't believe me.

My opinion not yours

I liked it, the story was sweet. The characters possessed real qualities of normalcy. The narrators did a good job of capturing my full attention

Loved this book

Loved how the character of Jake changed gradually due to his love for Miranda. A very slow building love that was believable and really sweet.

Puck Love

I truly enjoyed listening to this book. Good story line with down to earth characters. Even brought a tear to my eyes a couple of times.

It's what it is

You came here for a good listen? These narrators are amazing! You want some romance? No worries. What you won't get is an over abundance of smut, slow pace, nor any twists.

Better than expected

Any additional comments?

I thought this was going to be a quick read without any depth but it wasn't, it was much more. I love how the heroine and hero bonded and their relationship grew. I'm so glad this heroine wasn't TSTL. I hate when I read a story and the chick is annoying. I really liked this heroine. She was strong but not too strong to let her stubbornness get on my nerves. I'm going to check out more of this authors work now.

A sports romance that’s more than about love.

Well, this was unexpected. A woman who doesn’t know anything about hockey falling for a star player? And she’s a hotel housekeeper? I know, a bit out there, but hear me out, it works.

What I really enjoyed is how Miranda stood her ground in being her own person. Jake could and will give her everything, but she wants it on her own terms. Her merits. When a heroine can so easily fall into the kept partner of the hero, Brenda Rothert writes her independent of that. In turn, the hero grows to not only understand that, but himself.

This growth benefits other issues in his life and Miranda is there for him.

A pleasure to listen to. Lee and Kirsten do well. And Lee’s performance of Jake is especially good.

Not a lot of angst, just the right amount of steam and drama.

Book hog

Love hockey. Love romance (hubster calls them women's porn) mixing the 2 every even crappy performances I am happy to hear. However you hit a hat trick. Again with the other purchase.... More hockey would be like winning the cup. But since they have so few and even fewer in audio I take what I can get. They just don't get reviews. EVER. this is my 3 review this year including all books and I have purchased over 535$ in audio books alone just this year. So well done.

Cute sports romance

Hooked was pretty decent for a sports romance. I'd consider more of a girl falling for a guy who happens to play hockey. Miranda meets Jake when she is cleaning his room at the hotel where she works as a maid. Miranda doesn't bow down to Jake's demanding behavior and pretty much gives him lip and sarcasm. So of course he's interesting in this girl because she doesn't put up with his crap. I liked how the relationship between them grew. She didn't give into him so easily and took things slow. I really liked them together. Miranda really cared about him and never pushed for him to share things about his past. Jake was also very supportive of Miranda while she's in college working two jobs, he even helped her study. Swoon. He even offers to help her pay for college so she can quit one of her jobs.

I really liked Lee and Kirsten. They both have great voices that I loved thinking of as Jake and Miranda. This was a very enjoyable audiobook.
