Publisher's summary

New York Times and USA Today best-selling authors Heidi McLaughlin and L.P. Dover come together for a sexy new series that delivers romance for every season!

For Brielle Armstrong the pomp and circumstance of the days leading up to the Kentucky Derby are truly the most thrilling time of the year. Press junkets, designer gowns, everyone schmoozing her in hopes of getting in her daddy’s good graces. What’s not to love? But this year, her heart is racing with anticipation to see Colby Hensley.

As a former trainer of her family’s champion horses, his rugged sex appeal has always filled Brielle’s mind with naughty thoughts of a little barebacked fun. Even though Colby walked away from their farm, her father Butch, would never approve of him. But what daddy doesn’t know can’t hurt him. If their secret comes out, it could cost Brielle everything. Still, what fun is life if you don’t ride it at a gallop?

Grab your riding crop, and place your bets. It’s Derby Day!

OMG, I cried!

This story was short but amazing. It's a second chance romance between the H and h who were born on different levels of a social system developed around horse racing, the horse owners who are essentially royalty and the horse trainers who are considered little more than the help. The build up and the subsequent running of the Derby was fantastic. To me, it eclipsed the romance that was going on almost in the background but I'm not sorry for that. The tension, excitement, and build up along with the numbness had me right there at the race.

Brielle and Colby are my favorite.

Brielle and Colby are my favorite. Dover and McLaughlin show just how tough the heart truly is with A Date for the Derby. From bruised egos to secret crushes, Colby and Bri are determined to throw emotions off kilter. With angst, humor and heart, McLaughlin and Dover prove that a handful of hope goes a long way.

Great quick CR by two wonderful authors

If you're looking for a well written quick contemporary romance, look no further.
The characters had a voice, each was a strong individual that then came together when the time was right. What more could you ask for? My only, tiny, itty bitty niggle was their drink of choice at the Kentucky Derby - I mean come on now, it should be straight up bourbon or a mint julep. Am I right????
That aside, I really enjoyed this book.

Delightful!

The Dating Series is getting better with every book and A Date for the Derby delivers. Colby Hensley is a very talented horse trainer who is striking out on his own and he's determined to win the Kentucky Derby. He is no longer working for the Armstrong stables because he discovered that Mr. Armstrong went behind his back to make a deal for a horse that Colby wanted. But in leaving Armstrong stables, he also left behind the girl that he loved. Brielle Armstrong fell in love with the sexy trainer when he worked for her father and she never understood why he left. But Colby doesn't know that she still loves him but he's not going to let her get away. There's something about the culture of horse racing that pits owners against "the help," and Brielle's parents refuse to allow their daughter to do so much as socialize with Colby. After all this time apart, Colby and Brielle aren't going to allow a little thing like a "parental ultimatum" keep them apart. Things get a little tense, not angsty and short-lived, when the truth and her father's secrets come to light. It's an ending of triumph for Colby and Brielle, and the other supporting characters find their happy ending, too.
Amelia Mendez does a terrific job with the narration. Her dynamic, well-modulated voice gives depth to the story as she brings each character to life.
