About this listen
He thinks she's a bossy shrew. She thinks he's rude beyond measure. It's hate at first sight.
England, 1823: Dr. Oliver Somersby is a man caught between two worlds, longing to be accepted--somewhere. The illegitimate son of a wealthy aristocrat and a Romani mother, he carries his shame in secret. Unwilling to commit to a relationship for fear of discovery, the high-and-mighty widow, Camilla Denby is the last person with whom he'd wish an attachment. If only she would stay out of his thoughts.
Years after losing her great love at Waterloo, Camilla is ready to risk her heart again. If only she could find a man who stirs her blood as passionately as her deceased husband. Certainly not that exasperatingly arrogant new doctor. But when she discovers he's the captivating man she met at the masquerade, she's forced to confront her feelings.
As they're continually thrown unwittingly into each other's paths, their protective masks are slowly discarded. And they each learn first impressions are often made in haste. But will Oliver's secret parentage be too great for Camilla to accept, and if discovered will it threaten his very life?
As they fight their way to each other, will they overcome their prejudices to find a lifetime of love?

Now, all of sudden he’s returned as Nick, king of thieves and ruler of a den of criminals, and she still feels the same way about him.

A truly beautiful story.
A truly beautiful story full of joy, service, class differences and cultural struggles. Olive is the illegitimate son of Lord and a gypsy. As a doctor, he works at Hope Clinic and meets Camilla at a masquerade. The chemistry between the two is amazing and can be felt through the story. I have both read and listened to the audio of this story. I must say, my favorite is the audio. This author has the wisdom and uniqueness to use not one but two narrators, The Duke and Duchess! They are beyond words amazing story tellers, their diction was impeccable and being such give life to the entire experience. Having both a male and female voice makes so much difference in an audible story. I'm so impressed with these two story tellers that I won't listen to audiobooks unless there are two people. Bravo to this author for both her amazing story as well as her innovative creativity in using both narrators.

A Heartfelt Romance of Prejudice, Passion, and Redemption
A Heartfelt Romance of Prejudice, Passion, and Redemption
A Doctor for Lady Denby by Trisha Messmer is a compelling and deeply satisfying Regency romance. The enemies-to-lovers dynamic between Dr. Oliver Somersby and Camilla Denby crackles with tension, wit, and vulnerability. Their journey from disdain to understanding is both heartfelt and poignant, with each layer of their guarded hearts slowly peeled away.
Messmer masterfully addresses themes of societal prejudice and personal insecurities through Oliver’s struggle with his mixed heritage and Camilla’s quest to rediscover love after loss. The masquerade twist adds a delightful element of mystery, and their gradual realization of their true feelings is utterly captivating.
The narration by Duke and Duchess DeFoix is impeccable, bringingthe characters to life with distinct voices and emotional depth. They perfectly capture Oliver’s internal conflict and Camilla’s fiery determination, making their romance even more engaging.
This book beautifully balances historical authenticity with emotional intensity, creating a story that is impossible to put down. A Doctor for Lady Denby is a standout in the Hope Clinic series, and I eagerly await the next installment!
I received a complimentary copy of this audible book. My review is voluntary and honest based on my interpretation of the story and narration. My review received no influence from the author, publisher, nor narrators.
