Publisher's summary

The moment Nathaniel Huntingwell, the newly minted Duke of Greenwich, steps into The Wild Rose Inn, a literal run-in with Daisy Tavners changes everything. Recovering from a war wound and hiding his true identity, he is constantly tested by the stubborn and opinionated eldest daughter of the innkeeper, yet he cannot seem to keep away from her.

Busy running her parents’ inn, Daisy has no times for secrets. And she definitely doesn’t have time for secret dukes. In fact, she wants nothing more than for the arrogant, self-righteous Mr. Hawke, as she knows him, to leave the inn and her family, for he is clearly hiding something he has no wish to share. Already left for another woman by one of the local gentry, she vows to never trust again - especially a man who treats her with such superiority.

Everything about Daisy and Nathaniel should mean they are absolutely wrong for one another. Yet, the more time they spend together, the more they cannot deny that they are inexplicably drawn to one another. When Nathaniel must assume the life of a duke, however, what will happen to Daisy?

Please note: This regency novella contains some sensual content.

Easy

There is something to be said for an “easy” listen. And that’s what I can say, it was easy. Not complicated, not long, not simple either, just easy.

The narrator was not my favorite. Yet I never questioned who was speaking.

There is absolutely NO heat., NONE.

I got it in the sale. Would I use a credit? Idk.

Daisy and the Secretive Nobleman

When Daisy bumps into Nathaniel and spills her market purchases for the family inn and he makes no move to neither apologize nor help her I knew there would be tensions between them. He has recently retired with injuries from military service and due to his last service as a spy behind enemy lines where it is possible they might come over him he is hiding out at the inn before he can assume the title of Duke of Greenwich, which he never expected due to having an uncle and cousin between him and the title. He lived a life of privilege and even with the hardships of the military he expects a certain level of service never realizing that it is left to Daisy and her sisters to perform any task he requires as her parents have let go most of the servants. He comes to understand her better when she tells him she was tossed over by the local baron for a noblewoman after it was expected he would offer marriage to Daisy. They spend time together, walking and riding to the beach and among the fields and bluebells and fall for each other. But he doesn’t tell her he is a Duke and when she finds out it causes a rift between them that he has to work hard to overcome. I loved Daisy’s sisters and look forward to their romances.

I love the narrator with her British accent and speech who changed voices and used emotional inflections throughout the story to keep the listener's interest.
