About this listen

In a propulsive thriller by the #1 internationally bestselling author of The Baztán Trilogy, a female detective follows a psychopathic killer into the eye of a storm.

Amaia Salazar, a young detective from the north of Spain, has joined a group of trainees at the FBI Academy in Virginia. Haunted by her past and having already tracked down a predator on her own, Amaia is no typical rookie. And this is no ordinary student lecture at Quantico. FBI agent Aloisius Dupree is already well acquainted with Amaia’s skills, her intuition, and her ability to understand evil. He now needs her help in hunting an elusive serial killer dubbed “the Composer,” and in solving another case that’s been following him his whole life.

From New Jersey to Oklahoma to Texas, the Composer’s victims are entire families annihilated in the chaos of natural disasters, their bodies posed with chilling purpose amid the ruins. Dupree and Amaia follow his trail to New Orleans. The clock is ticking. It’s the eve of the worst hurricane in the city’s history. But a troubling call from Amaia’s aunt back home awakens in Amaia the ghosts from her childhood and sends her down a path as dark as that of the coming storm.

My New Favorite author

I like tortured detective stories and this is my new favorite...I'm looking forward to the Báztan Trilogy.

Excellent book

I truly enjoyed this book. I felt like the plot kept me interested and the narrator was phenomenal. Her ability to all of the different accents that was required was beyond what I could have imagined. My one complaint is that there are a lot of characters and at times it was difficult to remember who some of them were and where they related in the story. Overall, I recommend this book for not only the plot but for also for the history of New Orleans and Hurricane Katrina. I learned a lot of new information that I never saw or heard on the news.

Author and Narrator a brilliant team!

Emma Gregory is my best narrator so far in 3 years of audio books. Fantastic characterisation. A 5 star detective whodunit by Delores Redondo, kept my interest all the way through the 20hours!

Another “can’t stop listening” audiobook

Ms Redondo and her awesome & intriguing character “Amaya” filled my imagination again. This is my 4th novel by the author that I listened to with keen intention to detail. I can visualize every scene in detail & wish I could meet Amaya and pick her brain.

I can’t wait to see what this dynamic duo does in the future!

Gripping

I listened to this book following a second listen of the Baztan Triliogy. The story did not disappoint. It was gripping, terrifying, heartbreaking… and it really did right by the victims of Katrina. Amaia’s story left me wanting more and I hope our next adventure takes us back to Quantico and to Dupree.

My one gripe is the narration. Even though Emma Gregory read the second and third book of the series, she used different voices for characters we already knew. It’s a different time period, so ok.. but so many characters voices couldn’t be differentiated between. It was hard to follow at times. And quite frankly, I found the voices of the black, Louisianans to be so far off base that I wondered if it was lack of effort or vaguely racist.
Lastly, and this is not exclusive to Gregory’s narration, it’s disappointing to hear so many mispronunciations in an audiobook. It takes you out of the story. Would be great to see more performers researching, but I suppose we don’t know what we don’t know.

NOLA is a Standout Character in this Novel

Well-developed characters and carefully crafted storylines engaged me throughout this book. I will look for additional works by this author.

Brilliant book and narration

Characters are so fully, beautifully defined, I feel as if I know them. Events, situations, are immersively real. This is great writing. Worth every minute of listening. Narration is excellent.

New to Redondo, Excellent Read

This is the first book I have listened to/read (Kindle) by Delores Redondo. This book does have tragic elements, like most thrillers/crime fiction. The author created very strong characters, strong story lines. Especially toward the end of the book, I couldn’t wait to come home from work, settle in for the evening so I could listen/read some more. I am very surprised to see that there were only 45 ratings for this audiobook, so I really needed to rate this. Emma Gregory is an amazing narrator!! So many accents, so many characters and she was great! I can see why people choose books based on Emma Gregory as a narrator.

Magnificent book, amazing performance!’

I’ve just discovered this Author, in 2 months I have listen to all her books. This book in particular is really well performance. I’m fact it is one of the best performances in audible that I listen to so far!
Only two translate errors that might help you if you are an Anglo listener: chirimiri is a soft rain and little vixen is not a fox it is little hore..
As for the history, it is better understood if you listen to baztan trilogy first. But as a separate book it can do.
Enjoy this book, it is another master pice by Dolores Redondo!!
