About this listen

Madison Fox just learned her ability to see souls is more than a sight: It's a weapon for fighting evil. The only problem is she doesn't have a clue what she's doing.

On the positive side, her money problems are over, and her coworker is smoking hot. On the negative side, evil creatures now actively hunt her, and deadly experiences are becoming the norm.

When she thinks it couldn't get worse, a powerful evil sets up shop at a local hotel's video game convention, and it's got its eye on more than the gaming geeks - it's hungry for Madison's soul.

Madison needs to become an expert illuminant enforcer overnight to save her job, her region...and her life.

A Fistful of Evil is a fresh new-adult urban fantasy from the author of the well-loved Gargoyle Guardian Chronicles. For a wildly imaginative story packed full of supernatural horrors, kick-butt action, and laugh-out-loud moments, you won't want to miss this series starter.

GOOD START FOR A NEW SERIES

Entertaining. The heroine has a kind heart though she sometimes do not obey rules and get herself into trouble. Lots of action and lots of tensed moments. Interesting concept of good against evil. I am news to the writer and I find the series very promising. Well narrated/performed by Elise Arsenault. Her voices for both males and females were good. I will continue the series and I hope there will more to come.

potential

The plot line and story build has a lot of potential. I had a lot of trouble not fast forwarding through a lot of it though. I found it frustratingly annoying that the FMC doesn't know how to speak up and say 'hey, the idiot you let me take over for conned you and I know nothing about this world!' all she needed to do was ask for training and education everytime they told her she wasn't ready and was clueless. It wasn't my cup of tea with her not being able to ask for help with everything they expect from her but instead degrade her for not knowing, but she'll happily go fight evil...uh? The writing was still great and narrator well read and spoken.

Another heroine who repeatedly makes same mistake

other than that - great premise & world building, lots of humor, & likeable characters

character

The main character is a joke, utterly useless in the story. She doesn't act when she needs to and acts when she doesn't need to.
Book would have been better with just Niko as the main character.

Reasonably entertaining

The introduction to a new reality is usually entertaining - and this one did not disappoint. I think it's important to note that our heroine's reality is composed of obvious good versus evil elements rather than interesting fantasy creations. This could become a serious problem if not handled well. There is humor in both the reality and the story, which is something I look for.

The heroine is incredibly young and stupid, which I usually can't stand, but for some reason I felt tolerant this time. She started me thinking about how stupid I was at her age and she makes the young me look good. I also told myself that she'd just been thrust into a whole new world, which was true. However, while the young me also had high hormone levels, I never lost my train of thought when a handsome man walked in.

So, overall, yes she is incredibly stupid - not listening to advice and not noticing obvious problems. However, she has an endearing element and the potential to be an entertaining klutz, which I think is what the author was going for. This book is good enough that I'll probably listen to at least one more book in the series.

A fun story

I enjoyed both the story and wonderful narration. If amusing paranormal romantic action adventure is what you're after, start here.

Who knew I enjoyed this genre!?

Great story. I was spellbound. The story lasted longer than most, and had more development and interest than I thought was possible for this genre. Locals to the Sacramento region, especially Roseville will enjoy the references to the geography. I will definitely listen to the next in the Madison Fox series!!

Tedious character

This book was hard to listen to. The narrator did a great job. However, the main character constantly did dumb things for even dumber reasons. Some things were so predictable, I started calling audibles. I won't bother with the rest of the series. I can't imagine the main character will mature by then.
