About this listen
Speed, strength, precision, and a whole ton of adrenaline make American football one of the most exciting games in the world. It’s also a game filled with legendary stories!
When you think of the great NFL players, names like Jerry Rice, Joe Montana, and of course Tom Brady come to mind, for good reasons. But behind each game and each legend, there is more to making an epic game than you might imagine…. From the referees practicing their coin toss to stadium managers fearing the worst during a blackout.
Then there are the players who laid the foundations of the game, the ones whose names have been forgotten...such as the first teams to play in a televised game to a worldwide audience of 1,000!
Back in the day, players would spend their entire career with one team, leading them through the highs and the lows with their unique, incomparable abilities. Mel Hein and Jim Thorpe are just two that come to mind. The rich history of America’s favorite sport has created some mind-blowingly inspiring stories throughout the decades…and it will continue to thrill, fascinate, and uplift us in the decades to come.
In this book of legends, you will discover:
- Why old-school Raiders fans can’t stand Heidi
- The biggest mistake of the NFL’s commissioner’s career and how others have learned from this
- How one yard or 52 seconds can be enough to change the entire outcome of a game
- How two brothers won $1 million in fantasy football thanks to a player who recovered from a torn ACL, MCL, and LCL
- The hungover player who scored the first Super Bowl touchdown for the Green Bay Packers
- The Native American who won gold medals at the Olympics, played 12 seasons of football, and became the first president of the NFL—but only entered the Hall of Fame 10 years after his death
- How coaches and managers thought outside the box to complete their teams during the 1987 strike—even recruiting a 7-Eleven security guard and a convict to play

It is in this harsh, unforgiving world that he must fight to survive...and teach his son to do the same. The Soul of Baseball is as much the story of Buck O'Neil as it is the story of baseball. Driven by a relentless optimism and his two great passions - for America's pastime and for jazz, America's music - O'Neil played solely for love. In an era when greedy, steroid-enhanced athletes have come to characterize professional ball, Posnanski offers a salve for the damaged spirit: the uplifting life lessons of a truly extraordinary man who never missed an opportunity to enjoy and love life.

In Golden Days, acclaimed sports journalist Jack McCallum uses these two teams - the Jerry West/Wilt Chamberlain/Elgin Baylor Lakers and the Stephen Curry/Kevin Durant/Draymond Green Warriors - to trace the dynamic history of the National Basketball Association, which for much of the last half century has marched memorably through the state of California. Tying together the two strands of McCallum's story is Hall of Famer West, the ferociously competitive Laker guard who later became one of the key architects of the Warriors.

Story
The NFL has come a long way from its founding in Canton, Ohio, in 1920. In the 100 years since that fateful day, football has become America’s most popular and lucrative professional sport. The former scrappy upstart league that struggled to stay afloat has survived a host of challenges to produce American icons like Vince Lombardi, Joe Montana, and Tom Brady. It is an extraordinary and entertaining history that could be told only by Joe Horrigan, former executive director of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and perhaps the greatest living historian of the NFL.

The task facing Steve Stricker at the 2021 Ryder Cup was enormous. It was his job, as the American captain, to stare down almost 40 years of Ryder Cup history, break a pattern of home losses that had persisted almost as long, and reverse the tide of European dominance in one of golf's most tense and emotional events. This was the epitome of a must-win, but it was also something more—in the entire 93-year history of the event, no American side had ever faced this kind of pressure.

1984 Saved American Football
That swift and cunning game back on December 16, 1979 between the Redskins and Cowboys was pure fire. I'm glad that the San Francisco 49ers saved American Football back in 1984 after the game had somehow lost it's "spark." This is the kind of valuable info you will receive regarding football from this audiobook. This is a must have for the true all American football fan. Make sure in addition to this audio, you grab a copy of the paperback version and add it to your home library.

Football untold stories
I really enjoyed this book! As a Green Bay native, football is in my blood. Nostalgic and remarkable football moment stories are part of regular dinner conversation. But in all that time, I’ve never heard these stories! What a treasure. Thank you for giving me fresh material - just in time for regaling the crowd at family holidays.
