About this listen

What makes for a successful investor? More important, what makes for a happy and meaningful life? According to legendary investor Jim Rogers, the road to financial success and the road to a meaningful life are one and the same. In A Gift to My Children, Rogers lays out his advice to young people on how to achieve the financial success they need to live their dreams.

A Gift to My Children is anchored by the two basic rules Rogers invests---and lives---by. The first is that you have to see the world up close if you're going to understand how it works, and the second is that you must always question conventional wisdom. Using a mix of stories from his childhood in Alabama, as well as his experiences at Yale, Oxford, in the army, in his world travels, and over the course of his investing career, Rogers explains how he has applied these principles in his own life and why they have made him so wildly successful.

An accessible, entertaining, story-driven guide to a happy and successful life, A Gift to My Children will introduce Jim Rogers to a new generation.

Very insightful! A beautiful letter!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

We get so caught up in our day to day, we forget about the world around us as a whole. Book makes you want to travel and study history, as well as, become an educated investor.

Better than I expected

Opinion on macroeconomics was the most value valuable part of this book. Apparently this review requires more than 15 words so bla bla bla... Worth the listen / read.

Good ideas

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Jim seems to want his kids to thrive in the future, and the steps he is taking to immerse them in other cultures will likely pay off. He is able to do things to expose his kids to other cultures that would be very difficult for the average American. It would be hard to move to a Chinese speaking country for someone who did not have the resources or job skills to find a job there. Still, he does have a good point in that you should prepare your kids for a more international worldview.

Just What I Expected

Would you consider the audio edition of A Gift to My Children to be better than the print version?

I have not read the print edition but I prefer audiobooks over printed books as I listen to them in my car.

Who was your favorite character and why?

n/a

What about Johnny Heller’s performance did you like?

The narrator was fine. I do wish the book had been read by Jim Rogers himself as the book is essentially a letter to his two daughters. Jim is a good speaker and I think it would have added a little extra to the book.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

n/a

Any additional comments?

As a father with a young daughter I really liked this book. Its not the typical investment book from Jim Rogers but rather a heartfelt letter to his two young children with advice and his prediction of what the future may look like for them.

Great Book!

Life lessons from those who have experience in success are a key tool in developing your own success. Jim Rogers offers exactly that in this book.

Jim also inspired something I’ve forgotten the importance of: history.

I’d recommend this book to anyone.

Self-congratulatory indulgence

Boring and out-dated. Not generally applicable. An excuse for a pat on his own back and a trip through his memories. Maybe his kids will read, but I doubt they'll pay attention.
