Touch his mate and you'll wish for the fires of hell.
Alpha of the Hellhound enforcers, Derek doesn't think he has time for a mate until the Paranormal Council of the city gives him one.
Hollis is a smart, funny, vulnerable human, and his police commissioner uncle has designs to use Hollis's new mating for his own ends.
He'll learn quickly not to mess with a hellhound's mate.
A Hellhound Called Derek is the first in this fast-paced novella series where the paranormals are all deliciously protective of their humans, no matter what type of trouble they get into.

Zachary Zaba was phenomenal in this one! Nailing the characters with their unique style, leaving nothing behind. It’s not often I react during a scene, either, but there was filled with so much passion and enthusiasm, I couldn’t help but respond! I cannot wait for the continuation, especially with that cliffhanger (bah humbug).
Derek is the man!!

I look forward to the future listens in this series.
Derek the hellhound enforcer was coerced into marrying a human to encourage good public relations.
Hollis the human nephew of the commissioner was placed into this marriage to be manipulated by his uncle.
Sparks fly with the new couple and between cities citizens.

This is book 1 in a novella series, Mated to the Human, by Michelle Frost, narrated by Zachary Zaba. It was a quick listen and it sets up the background for the next 2 books in the series. The series underlying storyline is supernaturals mating humans to help garner peace between the species.
It was a little too short/quick and I would have loved more information about these two main characters. More world building plus more character development, but when the book is a novella you realize you can't have it all. It was a great start to a new series and I look forward to listening to the rest of the series, if I can wait... otherwise I may have to read the rest of the series in ebook format. Hurry, hurry, hurry!!!
Now I'm spoiled!!!

Chosen to mate and bring the paranormal and human worlds together.
Derek and Hollis find that their mating is something that they both unexpectedly want.
With an overlapping story arc and great supporting characters, I can’t wait for more of this series to come.
The narrator was entertaining and brought the characters to life exceptionally well.
A promising new series

The concept of being appointed human mates to promote and strengthen the relationship between the cities supernatural beings and humans is interesting. I also liked the plots, both the overarching one with a human hate group targeting the mixed couples, and Hollis', being bullied by his family.
Obviously, with a book with this length there isn't any real depth. I would have loved a full novel with the same premises but more fleshed out. Everything, the plot, the world built, the MCs and the side characters were all very promising!
My only complaint is the narration. The narrator does a good job, except Hollis' voice. Not sure what he was going for but it sounds really weird and took my out of the story every time.
Short but sweet!
