About this listen

Laurel and Jeremy Calloway have longed for a new life away from the chaos and confusion of New York City. Driving along a country road in New Jersey with a young real estate agent in the back seat, they almost miss it: a small house in the woods for sale.

Laurel immediately thinks this could be the house for them - the house of their dreams, where a simpler life awaits. Laurel can finish her debut novel. Jeremy can look for a job in Philadelphia, just an hour away.

Stopping to take a look at the property, they meet the house's caretaker, Eileen, and within a few weeks, they find themselves the very lucky owners of their ideal home.

But who are the mysterious old couple who'd put the house up for sale, having moved out months ago? Is Eileen more than a friendly neighbor? Who are the townspeople they meet, who all seem aware of the young couple now living in the house in the woods? And is it the house of their dreams, or of their nightmares?

This book kept my attention from the very beginning. I couldn’t stop listening, I needed to know what was happening to Laurel. The narration was a little slow at times but overall I enjoyed the characters.

I like this book, because it reminds me of Hantzel and Gretel, a book read to me when I was a child and it scared the living childhood right out of me. Hats off to the writer, and excellent narrator thank you.
I would recommend this book to everyone just don’t read it at night.

It takes me back

This is the first book I’ve listened to by this author and the description was intriguing so I figured I’d try it out. I listened to the first chapter last night before bed and it kept my interest. The narrator wasn’t horrible as others claimed but l found her over-pronunciation of some words like environment slightly irritating.

To be honest, Laurel was an extremely hard character to like for most of the book. She was self-centered and hypocritical however she does grow on you as the book progresses. I finished the rest of the book today. I found as I kept listening I kept wanting to find out what happens next. The townsfolk were creepy and I didn’t know if Laurel was crazy or something nefarious was really going on. Overall, I was really pleased with this book and I would definitely try another book by this author.

I requested this book from the publisher or author directly in exchange for an honest review.

Quick Listen! Great Beach Read!

suspense, thriller, psychological

Eerie but not supernatural. First there's the odd real estate agent who wants to keep them away from a property they noticed and decided to tour, then there are odd noises in the house, and the locals start seeming odd. the curiosity and suspense keep ramping up until the surprising ending. The characters are all too real!
Daniela Acitelli really knew how to differentiate characters and intensify their responses.
I won this audiobook in a giveaway!

This was an excellent story! A couple on their way to see a house with a realator spy an old house for sale. At the wifes insistence, they go look around.Their life picks up and things are great, until they aren't.A Twilight Zone type story that pulls you in. Daniela Acitelli was a fine narrator.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.'

I loved it! It kept me interested the whole way through. I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to enjoy the narrator to begin with but she grew on me. I wouldn’t mind finding more books narrated by her. The book itself wasn’t too long or overdone like a lot of titles in this genre seem to be. I never felt like the story was dragging on or taking up unnecessary time with added filler and fluff. The story was well thought out and didn’t leave any unanswered questions.. just the way I like it. I definitely did not expect the big twist at the end. This story got me excited to dive back into my existing audible library.
