Publisher's summary

Death is the huntress that prowls under the light of the moon, seeking souls to claim and devour. Death is the whispering voices that echo through the night, begging witches to answer their call.

Souls are hunting, and Ingrid is struggling to accept her fate. After a failed attempt at killing the Overseer of the seventh witch house, Ingrid is waiting in sanctuary with the looming presence of a desperate bargain she made hanging overhead.

Meanwhile, Cason is piecing together the resources of the clans while struggling with the guilt of his decisions. He is developing a new strategy in reclaiming their land, saving their people, and fulfilling an ancient prophecy foretelling peace between the shifters and witch houses.

After Sophie seeks the help of a goddess, Cason sets out to retrieve Ingrid, hoping to inspire and ignite a desire to continue what they started. Loss and suffering continue to weigh heavily, but will an unexpected alliance with the Dark House be a catalyst for success?

Cason and Ingrid navigate the tensions of their relationship while striving to repay Izina with the death she is owed.

Absolutely Wonderful!

Loved this duology!! The characters stirred so much emotion and each of their arcs were the main characters in my opinion.

Beautiful Audio

Really enjoyed this 2nd book - not as good as the first one, however. The narrator was superb, though, and brought this story to life.

I was living in the story

This story captured me from chapter 1 with the vivid detail, delivery of the different characters, and the thick tense situations wrapped in an understandable plot… It was perfection! The audiobook narrator is incredible for portraying the emotions and scenes. I teared up a few times and definitely laughed when the moments called for it. I can’t say enough good things about the performance and story. Five stars, easily.

I great closure to the duology

steinbrechers first foray into ppen door spice is all that you hoped it would be and Ms. Dane's smooth narration gives it just the right kick. I love Lucas and am so happy with his character arc and story line. no spoilers but I'm so happy with who Cason ends up with. I will forever read Steinbrecher and listen to Dane

Better than the first book!

This audiobook was not only even better as far as the story is concerned, but the narrator has grown in her craft as well, which made my listening experience that much more enjoyable.
We find Ingrid in isolation in Book 2. She is still grabbling with the ramifications of secrets kept, even if they are justified. She knows her time is running out because the voices are calling.
Cason is also struggling with his role as leader, but once he opens his heart to what Ingrid means to him the both of them are unstoppable in what they can accomplish together.
But can they overcome the prophecy that wants to claim Ingrid and carve out a future together?
I loved how Steinbrecher gives us insights into the other characters in this amazing fantasy series. Lucas is by far one of my favorites and I love his interactions with Neesha. She is such a sultry and strong character. I found myself wanting to know more about her. Hey, Emma, spinoff?
I highly recommend this for anyone who loves fantasy with shifters, magic systems, witches, and badass women.
