About this listen

The Bachelor meets The Hunger Games. Ten women. A deadly contest. Only one can win the Sun King's heart.

Lor has endured twelve long years of torment under the Aurora King's rule. Her only desire is to get free and pay him back for every moment of misery she's endured.

When a surprise release finds her in the hands of the Sun King, Lor is thrust into the spotlight as she competes against nine other tributes for the role of queen. If she wins his heart, she'll earn her freedom and finally get her revenge.

But Lor doesn't belong in the Sun Queen trials. Not only does she not understand why she was freed, she isn't a citizen of the Sun King's court. The other tributes resent her presence and will stop at nothing to ensure Lor is wiped off the gameboard—permanently.

Now Lor must win because if she loses, she dies. Or worse, she'll be sent back into the hands of the Aurora King.

This glittering fae romance is perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas, Jennifer Armentrout, and Raven Kennedy. Trial of the Sun Queen is the first book in the Artefacts of Ouranos series with an eventual happy ever after.

Wow

Ok so it took a while for me to get into it. The audiobook really helped I loved the narrators I think they brought life to Lor and Nadir. Can’t wait to read /listen to the next one.

great story but ehhh female narrator

I really enjoyed the story and pacing, but I just couldn't get past how Lors narrator constantly sounds in turmoil. It really takes away from certain scenes and I just don't undertand all the positive feedback for her. Maybe its just a personal preference, but otherwise good story.

Enjoyable story

This is similar to other stories in this genre but is still very enjoyable. It had taken me a while to adjust to the narrator due to often sounding on the verge of a panic attack. Eventually I didn’t think of that anymore and just got lost in the story.

Thoroughly entertaining

I wasn’t sure as I’m a huge Sarah J Maas fan and similar books. I agree it’s nothing groundbreaking but if you’re looking for entertaining and enjoyable look no further. I don’t hate the narrators at all and they didn’t take anything away from the story just a bit dry at times. Overall the ending left me excited to read the next book and see where it goes. I’m disappointed I’ll have to wait until June 2024
for the 3rd book already!!

Recommend!

I loved Lores wit, grit, and love for her family. I guessed a few things early on, but it was a good story!

Sassy/spunky FMC

4.5 ⭐️ - audiobook read
Narrated by: Corvin King and Soneela Nankani

Vibes: Bachelor plus MTVs The Challenge plus Fae OR The Selection plus a mashup of ACOTAR/TOG.

Tuli is quickly becoming a go-to author for me. I loved her Nightfire Quartet so far. I loved Sun Queen as well. The humor and banter draw me in and hold me there.

This book is a dual POV set up following Lor and Nadir. This book focuses mostly on Lor with Nadir chapters sprinkled in to build for when we see more of him later in the series (I assume). Lor is my kind of lady. She’s sassy, dances on the edge of stabby, extremely loyal, determined and fearless. Lor has spent most of her life excluded from society and learns of things along with the reader. Hints of her own secrets start coming to light later in the book. I’m going to keep this as spoiler free as I can; thus I don’t have much to say about Atlas at this point. Gabriel. He needs a hard punch to the nose to come to his senses. When he does, I’m excited to get more from him. I’m ready for more Nadir, and I think that’s where we’ll start with book 2.

Solid romantasy series option for your next read. I wouldn’t count on a strong romance pull for book 1; is there but isn’t likely what you’d be hoping for. My feeling is that will pick up in book 2 or 3.

Fast pacing & entertaining tale

I didn’t expect to enjoy this one as much as I did. A lot of parts were predictable, but the story developed fast enough that I went along with it.

Entertaining but amateur writing

I felt that the plot was interesting and entertaining. But, it read like a teenager wrote it after binging on The Bachelor. The change from past to present and future tense in many sentences is not only an amateur writing error but also something a good editor should have caught. The book is entertaining as a people magazine but lacks substance to make it much more than that. I will continue with the rest of the series for fun. It will be interesting to see if the author’s writing improves.
