About this listen

The Bachelor meets The Hunger Games. Ten women. A deadly contest. Only one can win the Sun King's heart.

Lor has endured twelve long years of torment under the Aurora King's rule. Her only desire is to get free and pay him back for every moment of misery she's endured.

When a surprise release finds her in the hands of the Sun King, Lor is thrust into the spotlight as she competes against nine other tributes for the role of queen. If she wins his heart, she'll earn her freedom and finally get her revenge.

But Lor doesn't belong in the Sun Queen trials. Not only does she not understand why she was freed, she isn't a citizen of the Sun King's court. The other tributes resent her presence and will stop at nothing to ensure Lor is wiped off the gameboard—permanently.

Now Lor must win because if she loses, she dies. Or worse, she'll be sent back into the hands of the Aurora King.

This glittering fae romance is perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas, Jennifer Armentrout, and Raven Kennedy. Trial of the Sun Queen is the first book in the Artefacts of Ouranos series with an eventual happy ever after.

Good not great, but I’m hooked enough to continue.

I love a story with a strong female protagonist, who -like in the Hunger Games- must complete a quest or trial. This story has that, so I was very intrigued to read. However, I did not like how cheesy some of the dialogue was. It felt immature at moments. I also love female empowerment and cohesion, I want females to band together in camaraderie. But, in this book there was catty competition instead and it felt like very 2012 middle school drama versus the teamwork we’d rather all read now in 2023. It was good enough that I want to keep reading, but not great enough that I’m obsessed yet. Maybe book 2 will get better?

Great story but one complaint

The FMC is this bad ass girl who has lived in a prison for 12 years. She’s mouthy and determined. And the narrator does a great job of showing that… until the character has to yell or speak up… then she sounds like a FMC from a regency era piece. It’s so petty for it to have annoyed me as bad as it did but yikes… it was whiney and simpering sounding and so contrasting to how the character usually spoke. I was able to get past it for the most part but sometimes it broke my concentration and flow. So… approach with caution. Lol.

Lets Rumble!!

Life is never simple or hum drum when dealing with humans and fey. you have your good humans and bad. Then you have your bad fey and good. and then there are those who thrive on chaos and the pain of others. it's spot like in comparison to Divergence but on steroids. it's a good story line with a twist.

Hunger Games meets TOG

Not too fond of how Lore was narrated but still loved the story line. Can’t wait for the next book!

I’ve seen this cover on a few different IG posts and reels so onto the #tbrlist it went! Yanno, the giant list you never actually reference when picking out your next read 🤣 I mentioned in a prior post, I’m trying to read more attending Apollycon authors and Trials of the Sun Queen got it’s moment in the sun (pun intended 😉)

This book has kept coming up in conversations with friends and my selling point is, It’s like fantasy the bachelor! I’ve also thrown out that it’s a cross between The Bachelor and MTV’s The Challenge but with fae. I mean that right there should 100% make you want to read this!

I really enjoy the story and there are definitely some gasp! moments in the story. I can’t say too much since I like to stay spoiler free but if you like fantasy and a feisty main character, you should for sure check this one out.

I’ve already downloaded book 2 of the series on my kindle because I need to know what’s going to happen next. The third book is set to publish June 4th so not too long of a wait if you want to dive into the world of the Artefacts of Ouranos.

Interesting story

Unique twist on several common story lines. Certainly not a complete story though. Strong female main character.

Fast Paced, High Stakes, Great FMC

I really enjoyed Trial of the Sun Queen. I love Lor so much. It was a fast paced exciting start to a series. Can't wait to jump into the next book. Interesting world, magic and characters. Rival Kingdoms, High Stakes, Secrets, Twists & Turns. Has audio and is in KU! Definitely recommend for romantasy lovers. I enjoyed the narration a lot! Fit the characters in my head!
