About this listen

The Bachelor meets The Hunger Games. Ten women. A deadly contest. Only one can win the Sun King's heart.

Lor has endured twelve long years of torment under the Aurora King's rule. Her only desire is to get free and pay him back for every moment of misery she's endured.

When a surprise release finds her in the hands of the Sun King, Lor is thrust into the spotlight as she competes against nine other tributes for the role of queen. If she wins his heart, she'll earn her freedom and finally get her revenge.

But Lor doesn't belong in the Sun Queen trials. Not only does she not understand why she was freed, she isn't a citizen of the Sun King's court. The other tributes resent her presence and will stop at nothing to ensure Lor is wiped off the gameboard—permanently.

Now Lor must win because if she loses, she dies. Or worse, she'll be sent back into the hands of the Aurora King.

This glittering fae romance is perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas, Jennifer Armentrout, and Raven Kennedy. Trial of the Sun Queen is the first book in the Artefacts of Ouranos series with an eventual happy ever after.

Male is too monotone. No emotion in his storytelling. It was hard to follow him because he was so boring…

Male reader is too monotone.

I finished in two days. The story isn't groundbreaking. It's like a mashup of the hunger games and ACOTAR. It's good but predictable. I like the female narrator. The male narrator is overly breathy, and he trails off at the end of his sentences, almost mumbling the last word. It's not terrible, but I hope he stops doing that in the next book where he's going to have more parts. Overall, it's entertaining. The dialogue is cringy in her first meeting of the prince, but otherwise fine.

Not ground breaking, but good.

I love the writing, the narrator, the opening line? 10/10. Have read twice in one week.

Lor is that girl.

Very good and interesting take from the get go. Immediately enraptured. The trials were well thought out, as were the characters. The only comment I can give is I was confused by the Aurora Prince’s storyline. I didn’t understand why we had him as a main POV until he was meant to go to the ball. Like I KNEW how he was important, and then things started clicking into place after that. Overall though, a very good and exciting read! Can’t wait to crack open the next installment :)

ACOTAR and The Bachelor had a Love Child

Kind of like a mashup of the selection, throne of glass, and red Queen vibe. Good book if for if you have read everything else and need a new read because you have a book hangover.

Pretty good

This book was just okay because it was very similar to Throne of Glass. Not bad but very similar so I gave it 3 stars.

it was okay - felt like Fan Fiction of Sarah J Maas books

Starts off very slow but picks up and becomes interesting. Would suggest listening at 1.2x speed to make the narrator more bearable.

This was a wonderful story. It had me interested from the beginning. However, the longer I listened to the narrator, she made the main character sound whiny and bratty. Everything was said so breathy and over exaggerated it was hard to stay sympathetic to her situation.

Great story, but narrator is whiny

the voice for heroine was a bit grating and diminished my enjoyment of the story

fun story

Wow. I haven’t read a fantasy series in a while that made me immediately want to start the next book and I felt that way with this one. Unfortunately my TBR, book clubs and buddy reads aren’t allowing for that but I definitely want to start book 2 soon!

I wasn’t sure how I would feel about this book since the trials/challenges in fantasy romance books tend to be over done but this was fantastic. I loved Lore’s background and where she came from; especially finding out more at the end.

This book was so fast paced and I loved the dual POV to get a better knowledge of the world.

Small spoilers:
I had a hunch about who Lore was and I think/hope I have an idea of how the romance is going to go but I guess I will have to wait and see.

Spice: 🌶️🌶️/5
