Publisher's summary

Verity Lark, Unraveling Deception.

Verity Lark—England's most tenacious gossip, the London Daily Gazette's most dogged reporter—relishes a challenge, which is why she refuses Colson Hardwicke's offer of menial employment. If the infuriating scoundrel really needs the sister of a radical reformer to be distracted with girlish chitchat, he can bloody well erupt into giggles!

She has more important things to do—figuring out why Hardwicke is interested in the radical reformer. During her previous run-in with him, he had shown himself to be the superior tactician, and she is determined to even the score. Proving that the radical reformer is an escaped fugitive is one way. Saving the country from a Luddite insurrection is another.

But when Verity stumbles across a dead man in a rundown boarding house, the competition suddenly stops being a game. There is more going on than she had ever imagined, and as she struggles to untangle Hardwicke's web of machinations, she is forced to wonder if she has been a pawn all along.

Welcome to the second installment of the Verity Lark Mysteries, where secrets run deep, and every move could be her last.

Another brilliant series and collaboration by Lynn Messina and Jill Smith

Having loved and followed the Beatrice Hyde-Claire series over the years, I was concerned about how Ms. Messina could match her earlier intelligent, witty, and engaging novels. But in this new series, she has created compelling new characters and sparkling dialogue - wonderfully rendered by Ms. Smith - and has drawn me deeply into their relationships. I actually had goosebumps upon hearing the closing line of this second Verity Lark novel - and I think that’s the first time that’s ever happened to me. I can’t wait to embark upon her third novel. Many thanks, Ms. Messina and Ms. Smith!! You’ve done it again!

LOVE LOVE LOVE JILL SMITH'S AMAZING NARRATIONS. PERFECT ACCENTS. EACH CHARACTER EXPERTLY IDENTIFIABLE...

AND LYNN MESSINA'S STORIES ARE COMPLEX, COMPLICATED, AND INTRICATELY FOLDED INTO THESE EXQUISITE HISTORICAL ROMANCES. MUST READ! NO 3 UP NEXT.

A Lark's Flight

This installment contained rather higher stakes than the last, which I quite enjoyed. I also appreciated the relationship development between Verity and Hardwicke, though at times I wanted to scream at them to just *talk to each other!* although I understand why they did not. (*grumble grumble* professional pride *grumble*) In any case, I greatly enjoyed this book, with my favorite parts being the interactions between Verity and Kesgrave, which I found to be both enlightening and entertaining.

Absolutely loved it!

I loved the latest in the Verity Lark series!! This book was even better than the first, in my opinion. I loved the storyline, and it was wonderful to revisit characters I enjoyed so much in the first novel. The narrator is also perfect for this audiobook.

Wow! What a wonderful listen

This book is great all around and the masterful performance of the narrator just wraps it up with the pretties bow. I’ve listened to it three times and enjoy it more and more. Love this series.

Not as good as the first one

I was excited to see this second in the newer series released, but it didn't have the excitement of the first and didn't hold my attention. I found myself just wanting the story to get to the point as most of it just felt like filler. I LOVE this author and every single one of her other books, but this one was boring with small bits of interesting plot and character development.
